Description
Contaminated soil and debris that was dug up from the Partition St Hotel Project (site of the former Cantine Paper Mill) was trucked and illegally dumped here in the long term parking area of HITS. This has been reported to the DEC and they are ignoring it since Congressman Hinchey is an investor with Struzzieri on the hotel project. (which is funded by taxpayer monies). The soil was tested by the town at the Cantine Mill site when it was thinking about locating the new town hall there - and it was found to be way in excess of EPA guidelines for numerous substances.

Mounds and mounds of contaminated soil/debris dumped here. It was illegal for HITS to dump horse manure here - now they are dumping contaminated soil/debris.

now there are people living next to this hazardous dump in their RVs, trailers.

look around not just your area, which i feel is not right.... many areas are dumping grounds if not individual homeowners yards its unoccupied areas...... yes go to your town hall, call all these taxpaying offices and what do you get, months and months of silence..... shame , shame time we all ask where are our tax dollarsare going with all the hikes and assessments down, and how come some can get away with so much. And others if you breathe wrong a neighbor calls and the town is down your throat.....

I just posted this on Maurice's facebook page. You should all do the same and ask him to clean this mess up. Thanks so much for posting this.

Everyone needs to contact the DEC and let them know that a full year has gone by since they inspected the situation and have ignored it. This dump of toxic mess sits up hill from the Hudson River, homes, etc and with Hurricane Irene and the Nor'easter has already caused contamination. Enough is enough! Struzzieri has enough money to do the right thing but will he if not forced to?

Do you have soil sample analysis for this site? Please send me a copy of the information you have ,for review, to wamore@gw.dec.state.ny.us

I don't think that Hinchey is an investor in the hotel. He was only involved in the original land purchase. We need to have correct info here.

The person that posted this information saw the environmental testing reports that the town paid for but never released. They were divulged in a meeting with engineers at town hall. The results showed extremely high levels of numerous toxic contaminants. All of these contaminants found greatly exceeded the allowable federal standards. Further testing was deemed unnecessary by the town supervisor and the site was removed from the list of possible locations for the new town hall (which was then chosen for its current location).
