Every time it rains a huge lake forms on the west side of College Street, north of Elm. I think there may be a clogged storm drain to blame.

There actually isn't any storm drain underneath where the puddle forms. I think water is supposed to flow north to a storm drain midway up the block between Elm and Wall, but unfortunately the water would have to flow uphill in order to reach it from the corner.
The city has been doing some work in the area in the past month or two. I wonder if they are planning to add an additional drain where the puddle forms? That or there was some other drainage issue in the area that they had to deal with. I wonder if the engineering department might be willing to give us update so I don't need to keep speculating?

Hold on... Upon closer inspection I have discovered that there is, in fact, a storm drain beneath all that water. I just never knew it was there because, well, it has always been covered in water...
Yes, it would indeed be nice if the engineering dept could get this drain working again.

I just bicycled past here and there was a car that slid onto the ice. It looked like they might be stuck.
If anyone has a shovel or one of those metal things for breaking up ice, can you let me know (by posting here) and I'll meet you there? I'm sure they've called a tow truck by now, but I thought it might be fun to help. Unfortunately, I don't have a shovel.

Ok. They're not there anymore. The ice is almost completely melted by all the water. Either the ice all melted during the time it took me to write my last comment, or they weren't actually stuck and just decided to pull over into a gigantic puddle for some reason.

Unfortunately, the drain still isn't working. Keep at it Engineering! It would be really nice if the blockage could be cleared up before April.

Here's a better photo. The last one was kind of blurry. Not that the photo really helps with figuring out what's blocking the drain anyway…

We have had a contractor clean our line from the Catch Basin to the combined sewer line and followed up with a tv inspection. We now believe the problem may be in the combined sewer line and we have discussed this withe the GNHWPCA. Hopefully we will get to the real issue soon.

Thanks so much!

Keep at it, Engineering Dept!
(the water still isn't draining)
I saw the crew out on Saturday. Hopefully they managed to make some progress, but the water definitely still isn't draining (see photo).
Thanks so much for all the work and I hope you figure out what's going on soon!

Yeah, just snapped this shot a couple days ago.

The cleaning crews who were working down in the pipes two weeks ago succeeded! It definitely rained during the past two days and—unlike before—there is no puddle. Issue FIXED AND CLOSED!
