The crosswalk light at Carolina and 5th Street (the main intersection in town) doesn’t give you enough time to make it halfway across the street before cars try to run you over. The biggest issue is that many drivers don’t understand the rules (or notice the big sign by the lights), but extra time before the lights turn would help. In the last couple months, we’ve had three incidents (we walk our dogs in town a lot). I sent a message to HPD, but they said the SCDOT handles stoplight / crosswalk issues. Can extra time be added to at least allow people to get across the street, or can buttons be put in to halt the green if someone presses the button and is crossing? It’s very dangerous. When you point out to people that we have a crosswalk light, they just scream at you that they had a green light. We can’t make the drivers any smarter, but the crosswalk timing can be fixed to compensate for their lack of understanding.
