Description
The wireless internet is not currently working at the 81st Avenue branch—this needs to be addressed as soon as possible. One of the MOST critical roles the Library plays in Oakland is in bridging the technology gap. At times of economic hardship, Oaklanders depend on their libraries and librarians. Internet access enables residents to apply for housing, food and support services that are increasingly available only online. In Fiscal Year 2012-13, the Oakland Library logged 304,756 computer sessions systemwide. Divided among branches and calendar days of the year, every day the wireless remains down is equivalent to about 46 computer sessions that can't happen. This is an important service that many people rely on--let's please get the wifi back up!
