The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request # 550667. Please check back for status updates or contact us directly at (510) 615-5566.
It seems the owner is unwilling to spend any money on it. Back in May he had the dream of opening a Subway sandwich shop there, but nothing in that direction has happened. In fact nothing has happened. Please join me in bugging Code Enforcement about this, Request #550667.
Work is taking place at this site. The contractor was actively painting over the graffiti, but that has apparently initiated a war with the knucklehead whose self-admiration depends on advertising his brand in this way. So the graffiti reappear within 48 hours. I think the contractor has given up, unfortunately.
The City is currently accepting applications for artists to do a mural on blighted properties; this one is getting added to the list. We need to get owner's permission to do the mural on the wall.
Alden - have you been in touch with the owner/ do you have good way to reach him? I left a vm asking about permission to have an artist do a mural until something is done with the space but know idea if he'll call back.
The City of Oakland covered the (far more extensive) graffiti a few weeks ago; the wall was tagged again almost the same night; the city came and covered that up. Now the tagging --- on that wall --- has stopped. But there have been some attacks on the windows, and on the back (West) wall.

$3000-$9000 is available to the chosen artist but we need permission from the property owner. Apps received by 5/28/15 receive preference. http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/citycouncil/documents/agenda/oak053092.pdf
