Description
A Monday/Tuesday parking rules sign is located across the street from 72 Telford. Underneath is a large tree limb (back from the Halloween storm) that is about 15 inches in diameter and about 12 feet long. It is hidden under a pile of leaves and is a danger for both snow plows and anyone unfamiliar with the danger who wants to pull into that space. Telford Street has not been sweeped for some time and the storm drains located 100 feet from this tree limb are becoming clogged which causes problems during rainstorms.

Despite calling up the city "hotline" to register citizen complaints, this log is still laying on the side of a city street. It is a danger to people unfamilar with it being there, as well as an eyesore. Oh well.

This city has enough problems, yet that is no excuse for just allowing a twelve foot long tree branch sit on the street for four months. As of February 25, 2012, the branch remains.

March 26, 2012 update - Someobody moved the log up onto the grass between the sidewalk and the curb because they wanted the parking space available. Still an eyesore.

We could always show up at the tree with saws and axes, do the work ourselves, photograph it for the East Orange Record, and send copies of the photos to the Mayor, along with a bill for our services (or a reduction of our property taxes as compensation).

I was looking at this long tree branch this morning. Some might claim that it fell from a tree that is on private property, yet I claim it is sitting on city property, is an eyesore, and is a danger when people are not paying attention. An abandoned house is right down the street, with garbage all over the place. Why should the neighborhood look any better? City neighborhood services department might want to be a little more proactive to keep Newark looking clean (and not like a garbage dump).

No government has ever cared about a neighborhood as much as the neighbors who live in it do. Say the word and I'll be over to help clean it up. But I know I can't do it on my own, so rally other neighbors and we'll take care of our own neighborhood. I'm in East Orange, and I can't tell if 72 Telford Street is in East Orange or Newark, but city boundary lines mean nothing to neighbors.

I tend to believe that the city of Newark believes this twelve foot tree limb fell from a tree on private property, and is thus not their responsibility. The fact is it is sitting on the curbside. Why is sanitation not removing it?

An abandond house a few houses away with drug peeps and prostitutes sneaking around the back is a bigger concern these days. Oh well!

September 2012 update - A nearby tree was taken down (well actually only all the branches, as the 40 foot main trunk remains). This log was moved from the current location to sit right under this unfinished tree removal in hopes that when the trunk will be eventually cut down, and removed, that the log will saomehoe get included and carried off with the rest of the tree debris. So, the issue has been half-way resolved in that this unsightly log is someone else's eye-sore now.

I am closing this issue, as there are much larger issues in the neighborhood that need attention than some tree branch.
