Unfortunately, I can not think of many options for this - They are not pleasant, but at least they are not driving. If the police picked them up, they are either put into the drunk tank or taken to the detox - where they are released the following day and the same thing occurs in the following morning.
Only they can save themselves, and as long as if they are not driving or hurting me - i dont really care.

Welcome to PA. Unfortunatley the problem seems like it is only going to get worse. With Some First Nations start to ban trouble makers from the reserve, some northern communities starting to go "dry" and "drug Free" it simply relocates these trouble makers into the cities where they have even more access to the stuff that they shouldn't.

Maybe time for the cities to ban people and look at going to a dry an drug free community!

It is unfortunate that people have to witness this everyday. I sure if someone could find a good solution to the problem, it wouldn't be happening anymore. It happens everywhere in PA. Try going down Central Ave on any given day and you will see it. It is not helping the business in that area, it is bad enough with everything else they have to put up with, customers will not come downtown because of the intoxicated people. By the way, you cannot say it is any given people who do this, It is all kinds of human beings that dirink. As for them not driving, try walking downtown without being asked for money or smokes by some of these people. Maybe if there were more detox centres that were manitory for them to attend and they could be helped with their underlying problems, things could be different.

That kind of stuff has been going on in P.A. as long as I can recall . Its not going to stop anytime soon. Don't blame the people though. If anyone, I'd blame the Gov for selling it's liquid heroine like there is no tomorrow. Who's your neighboorhood drug dealer? or do people still think booze isnt a drug?.

When it really starts to get to you, you will move away from PA like myself and countless others who simply couldn't stand to live in that environment any longer. Of course you always hear 'it's like that everywhere'. I've since lived in 5 different cities and have not witnessed anything even remotely disgusting as I have in good old Prince Albert. Do yourself a favour and escape it.

i somewhat disagree with, thethinker, some places in the north arent actually that bad like buffalo narrows, i work there i see it everyday. PA is 100 X's worse

Had made a comment to the same extent Max. But for some reason it was removed! I guess when the city runs the website and you say the truth which is, PA is a dirty nasty and filthy city! Solve the problem and leave! Nothing will ever change there, just gets worse!!!

I can't count how many times on 15th street. that someone under the influence has staggered into the path of my car, I am just thankful that I haven't hit someone yet. I have had to lock my car doors on 3 occasions as the people staggering all over the road came at me swearing & waving their fists because I honked at them. I honestly believe the police turn a blind eye to this behaviour because it's so common. The streets of PA are not safe at anytime of the day or night & to walk alone here could be a death sentence. I have travelled all over Canada & I don't know why I choose to live here, maybe it's time for a change. Prince Albert has become a scary place to live in or even visit.

If booze was banned very little would change. Do yourself a favor... watch shopping flyers for deals on mouthwash... then checkout the store. Be amazed when you get there and the shelf is bare...

Ban alcohol based mouthwash? they'll just find something else... it's a fight that's impossible to win.

Maybe there could be a list of Elders or Chiefs that the public could called instead of call in the police all the time. Then the Elders and Chiefs can provide proper councilling and accommodations for these people so the Aboriginal Community can start helping themselves. Plainly these are people that have fallen through the cracks, not only from the Federal Government but also from the FSIN and need a hand up NOT a hand out. If every Elder and Chief in the community could just open their own doors and hearts and show a bit of compassion things will change.

Yes I see it everyday.. the only solutuon I can suggest is more foor patrol by PA city police enforce enforce enforce.......it will work.

it was about the same or worse for drunks

but it was by FAR more Violent than ANY other place I had lived. ( I didn't live in LaLoche, but I did visit friends there ) Things must have changed some over time. BN had the most Racist folks I had ever had the displeasure of meeting!

Everybody has a issue with what has being going on for years everywhere I have been. There is so much traffic with this issue. It is still the same issue though. At least it is consistant. Addictions. Does a group fight the problem of dealing with addiction. Or deal with the visible results as public intoxication with a show of force by police. Your choice.

Anyways. Maybe we should make drugs and alcohol illegal. Then bring in our armed forces from other areas in the world and lock down P.A. But hey this might be what people are saying and maybe the local P.D. has no back up. Thats right. The legal system. So what is a officer suppose to do with these people. Well. can't really charge em with much as they WERE NOT DOING MUCH that would IMPOSE A SENTENCE of a million years. Well this is certainly an issue as per how a person prevent this without imposing on the one time people

Perhaps Chief Clarence Louie has the answer, although I'm sure it is not popular with many of the aboriginal peoples!

Okay, I'll get sucked into it more. I am not sure if I see the benefits of this "BOOM" either in P.A. Maybe more government programs and maybe taxes go up less. I think any group has just as much opportunities as the next around here. In my books, at the end of the day, we all still have to have JOBS. The original land owners still had to go out to hunt and gather to get their food and clothing etc

no different in other communities. Look at La Ronge; the downtown has become a haven for skid rows. You can't even enjoy a walk through the town anymore without being harassed by completely blithered people yelling, swearing & bumming/harassing you. It's just what society has turned it's back on, and now it's out of control.
