Update from the Codes Compliance Department: No ordinance would prevent someone from sleeping on the grounds of private property with the owner’s permission. The City of St. Petersburg strives to meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness while balancing the rights of all residents to have a safe, clean community to enjoy.
Street Outreach Team
The St. Petersburg Police Department's Outreach Team, created in 2006, works to serve people experiencing homelessness who need assistance finding temporary or permanent housing or getting connected with other programs. The Team consists of officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department and an outreach Social Worker. They work together to conduct regular outreach in the entire city. Please call 727-551-3783 (This staff is continually in the field, please leave a message).
Review the current ordinances regarding homelessness and panhandling. If residents meet individuals on the street who are in need of help or services, they should refer them to the Tampa Bay Cares 2-1-1 call line.
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for reporting this to us. Our Street Outreach specialist was asked to go to the area to see if they could assist anyone they came into contact with. They went out on 3/20/24 and unfortunately, did not locate anyone. Street Outreach and PATH (Police Assisting The Homeless) team will certainly continue to monitor the area and should they encounter anyone, they will also offer their help, including free transportation to a shelter, as well as enforce local ordinances. Thank you again for sharing your concerns.
