I have referred this concern to our Street Division to see what corrective action can be taken here. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Thank you for contacting the City of St. Charles regarding the speed limit on Gustane Drive. After review, the Public Works Department has determined the existing 25 mph speed limit on Gustane Drive should not be lowered. The 25 mph is a standard the City uses on all residential streets and is appropriate at this location. In specific cases, the City may lower the speed limit based certain criteria such as: if the roadway is very narrow, sight obstructions are present, parking is only allowed on one side of the street, other safety concerns, and if there are multiple crashes that have speeding as a contributing factor. None of these were found on Gustane Drive.

Regarding children playing in the streets and riding their bikes on the street, children are prohibited to play in the street unless in a cul–de- sac. However, the City does offer “Keep Kids Alive – Drive 25” yard signs to help with traffic calming at no charge to residents. Please contact the Public Works Department at 636-949-3237 if you would like some signs delivered.

Can a Sign that alerts Drivers to Children Playing be put up on both entrances of Charleston Manor

The City would not be placing "Children Playing" signs on your street because children are prohibited to play in the street unless in a cul–de- sac. However, as stated earlier, the City does offer “Keep Kids Alive – Drive 25” yard signs to help with traffic calming at no charge to residents.
