Description
Along the west side of Coney Island Avenue from Caton and on south, auto-body and car wash shops park cars and stand signs in one of the traffic lanes. This causes a dangerous mix of backed up traffic and drivers trying to maneuver around these hazards. This is an ongoing issue that causes problems for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

This is a persistent problem that is dangerous for both drivers and pedestrians. Please encourage the NYPD Traffic cops to regularly ticket cars that are double-parked and blocking traffic. Also, make the local businesses accountable by not allowing them to station cars that are being serviced in the street and place large signs soliciting their services right in the middle of traffic lanes. These businesses are responsible for maintaining clean and clear sidewalks as well - please help to hold them accountable!

Please fix this. It's an eyesore, a traffic impediment, and a safety hazard. It increases commuting time, contributes to air pollution and in general is a violation that lowers the standard of living for our area.

I am surprised this hasn't cause more accidents already - A giant metal sign placed in the middle of the road? How have summons not been issued to this business???

This is really maddening, and dangerous, and totally illegal. Can you please send someone out to give these guys some tickets??

Every single day they take up a traffic lane. Please help fix this problem.

Please include the car washes that pull cars into the first lane
of traffic to towel dry them off, blocking that lane.

Thank you CB14, we have contacted CB12 about the issue. They have said they would forward the complaint on to the 66th Precinct. However, the problem remains.

At 6:45pm on the 18th April, the double parking here was blocking southbound CIA so severely that traffic was backed up past Avenue C. Further, I witnessed several drivers driving in the left turn lane in an effort to get past the tie up, only to cut back into the regular traffic lanes at the intersection. PLEASE FIX

Enforce the daggum traffic laws!

Cars also block the sidewalk and leave debris, oil stains and create potholes on the sidewalk. Very dangerous for pedestrians walking to and from C-Town Grocery Store.

CB12 always says they are forwarding the complaints to the 66Pct. Is that all they can do? I could do that myself.

This is so dangerous and a blatant violation of traffic laws. Why aren't these commerical properties inundated with parking tickets, fines, they whole shebang!????!!

This problem is constant. It usually takes 3 or 4 cycles of red lights to pass this one block of Coney Island Ave. Auto body repair shops can't possibly be so important that they are outside the law?????

The only possible explanation for why this has been allowed to go on for so long is that someone -- or multiple someones -- is on the take. It'd be one thing if it were just a nuisance, but it's also really unsafe for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers alike.

This gives the appearance of impropriety. Not to say that anyone is taking money, but it gives the appearance that someone is. For public agencies, the appearance of impropriety is as bad as actually taking money, in that it erodes the confidence of the public.
Why is this allowed to continue????

Why has this situation not been dealt with yet?

If CB12 can't get any action from the 66th Pct, how about forwarding the complaints to Commissioner Kelly???
