Description
This is a busy bus stop in front of Popeye's the gas station on Whalley. There are usually a lot of people waiting for the bus here, but there are no benches and no covering for bad weather. It's just a sidewalk that depressingly abuts one random residential building (don't know if it's occupied or not) and the dumpster of the gas station. Some people make makeshift seats out of boxes and crates but it looks uncomfortable. I am an architect living nearby and wish I had the opportunity to design some seating, landscaping, and a covered shelter here. The bus riders should have a nicer spot to sit and wait.

Great idea

This is a great suggestion. There are really a host of traffic problems, trash problems, etc., right here, and the lack of good seating and shelter is among them. I'd imagine you could get the hotel and the shops to support some redesigning as well.

You know, I never thought about that. There is always a good amount of passengers who get picked up at this spot, and I suppose that the stop could at least have a shelter.

Do any of you know how to go about trying to get it to happen? I have no idea!

Go to the City of New Haven, Engineering webpage and click on the Complete Streets link in the left hand column. Read through the manual first to get an idea of the program and then fill out a request form.

Most of the bus stops have no place to sit down, except the ones around the Green.
