Description
Loud, Intrusive Low Frequency Noise causes ear pain, sleep loss; obvious vibrations and amplification in buildings. Can last hours, even in the dead of night (3-4am) even between Sunday to Monday morning when there is little to no activity outside. Semi/diesel truck idling? Seems a bit long. Factory, other, not sure. Please look into this and find a way to stop it. Was present in the early summer months, went away and is now back again. Happening now: 4:42am Thu Oct 18th for an hour or more. Not sourced in home; outside cause.
Update 1/3/13: Issue not solved but is somewhat less frequent and intense than it was throughout October and other months.
Update 4/16/2013: 3:18 AM and the noise is pulsing away, intense and loud. As reported in January, it stayed less frequent in the winter months if it was heard at all. March showed a return and increase in frequency and loudness. Now April is here and it is getting ridiculous; almost going 24/7 and not diminished by white noise from traffic or anything else. Pillows and earplugs do not work as it goes right through. Others who cannot hear it at such a low frequency have told me they do feel like they've been in a loud concert or club too long; their ears ache for no reason and sleep is disturbed. Someone mentioned the Windsor Hum again that originates supposedly at Zug Island and can effect people 50 miles out. Whether it is or isn't, I truly hope the sound stops once and for all. There is no good time to sleep and even when awake, it hurts. Vibrates right through the home. Takes the term noise pollution to a new level. It's pretty sad that it still effects those who aren't even hearing it like I am. Well, good sleep to all and I hope you're no where near whatever this is.
Update 4/21/2013: See the update above and in comments below. It is just bad this month...
Update 5/21/2013: For the last couple of days and nights, the noise has either quieted or stopped. I will wait and see if it returns anytime soon. If it stays away long enough, I will likely close the issue. Of course, I will also open a new report if it returns after doing so and link this one if I can. I guess we'll see what happens. Here's hoping that it's gone for good and this isn't just a lull...
Update 5/23/2013: The noise was back last night so... I guess this remains open. Tired.

@expose corruption: Thanks for the input. While I understand the car stereo and aircraft noise issues you mention, the issue I'm reporting is something different. It is continuous for long stretches of time, does not have a beat (though it may pulse or increase in volume for awhile) and does not end when the aircraft or car passes. In fact, it often seems at a lower frequency than even these things, heard underneath stereo bass or truck idling/traffic noise. Also, I'm not in the north side of Pontiac.
Some people mentioned Zug Island to the south as a possible source though I'm no expert on the logistics for such industrial noise travelling (sewers, other? who knows...). Granted, as mentioned before, the noise did cease earlier this year, fairly soon after Canada launched a complaint about Zug, but has now returned some months later.
On the bright side, the last week or so it has been less frequent, but it does return for long stretches (just with a bit more peace in between occurrences). I still would not consider the problem solved.
