So true. Libby needs to start addressing this issue. If she doesn't she needs to quit. It's gotten way out of hand. There should be designated place for these encampments if nothing else. Allowing them in parks, in residential areas, in front of businesses is unacceptable

Thank you for reporting this. Our office is around the corner. The problem is the police move them out, and they just shuffle down the street. There needs to be a place where they can go. West Oakland, nobody cares.......

UPDATE: It's been 8 months since I last reported this situation and the city has now decided to make this a permanent homeless encampment, the current population is estimated at over 150 by the city workers we spoke to. This week they installed K-Rails for the safety of the homeless, toilets, wash stations, garbage cans and provided each homeless person with fire extinguishers. This morning 5 angry homeless men were fighting in the street in front of our office and scared the living days lights out of our employees. They are now loitering in front of our business, harassing employees and customers. There is barely room for two lanes of traffic with the K-Rails. When our semi trucks stop to load and unload it's now one lane and the passing vehicle drivers are upset and screaming at our truck drivers. The delivery truckers are complaining about this situation and threatening to stop deliveries. How is it that the taxes we pay are going to services to benefit the homeless? These folks are known drug addicts, drug dealers and prostitutes!

Maybe we should move them in front of Libby's home, put up K-rails on her street along with porta-pottys, garbage cans and wash stations. I wonder how happy her neighbors would be! Who knows...maybe she would be just fine with that! NOT!

So the City is not only going to violate its own Municipal codes, heath and public safety codes they will also be violating county and state laws and Municipal codes as well. How can they do this without the consent of the taxpayers. They are asking to be sued. Can the citizens impeach these elected officials? The City of Oakland has no viable leadership.

I'm not sure what has set off the fireworks, but the homeless who are camped out in front of our business are becoming very agitated. Screaming and yelling on a daily basis, fist fights, one of these days someone is going to be seriously injured or dead. They are chasing each other into oncoming traffic. I can hear semi truck horns blasting and stretching brakes. We are scared for the safety of everyone. LIBBY you need to do something NOW!

I agree, lets put them in front of City Hall or Libby's house. Let's see how long they are allowed to remain. Why do they think this neighborhood is a throw away neighborhood?

Yeah it's really terrible. These are not honest homeless folks, they are thieves and druggies attracting more thieves and druggies.
I understand the need to support the poor, mentally ill and disenfranchised, but this Lord of the Flies community is not healthy for anyone.
