When is the city going to live up to it's responsibility, and save this beautiful neighborhood..?

I agree, as a pedestrian this is dangerous for us too, cars can't see us coming and we can't see cars. This area of Albany has a lot of people walking for exercise and to get to the busline and it's not safe at all.

This has been an ongoing problem. It has made see-click-fix many of times. When the inspectors looks at the property they claim it is ok. So I will try and give you a history of the property. First it has an Homestead address 86. The original owners of the house and also got the variance for the fence because it is a 6ft. tall fence and is not illegal were BONARRIGO JOSEPH, BONARRIGO DEIRDE. the property is now owned by the Federal Credit Union they maintain the property? I tried to get the variance removed and revert to the legal size of the city of Albany which says you cannot have a fence on a corner lot higher than 4 feet. I contacted Board of Zone and appeal they refer me to Corporate Council which told me who the owners were. Called the credit union left a message and no one called me back. When I contacted the Board of Zone and appeal they agreed the fence was falling down and it might be on city property which makes it illegal to start with. But again they refer me to the Credit Union. Lets see what Eileen H comes up with. Maybe just another run-around.

I truly hope this issue does get fixed; it has been off and on this report many times, an inspector is always "assigned;" nothing is changed: fence remains fallen down, fence remains blocking view to exit this corner of Garden Ave and Homestead St, as do the unkempt bushes.... this house has been vacant for years, there is a No Trespassing and REALTOR's sign on it, Realtor is not keeping this property up, NO ONE IS, it is a blight on the entrance of this beautiful street of Homestead and Garden Ave. We shall see if anything changes....regardless of whether credit union-owned or managed by the Realtor listed on the front door, there is NO maintenance of this property, ABSENTEE OWNER. thanks.

I agree...we must keep pressure on our city officials to see that this beautiful neighborhood is kept intact...

There is no reason not to keep this file open until the codes department does something with the fence and the deteriorating condition of the property. Check out the photos.

Thank you for reporting this incident. A code enforcement officer has performed an inspection of the premises and has determined that the fence is not in danger of falling down. The overgrowth has been referred to DGS.

not sure WHAT house the inspector(s) is visiting but we are all perplexed by this statement by Eileen when she just closed this issue : " the fence is not in danger of falling down" since the FENCE IS ALREADY FALLEN DOWN IN THE FRONT-PARTIAL SIDE of this House!! (see the attached picture)... the issues of its height and placement being in code violation, and/or of the unkempt yard/bushes blocking the line-of-sight when turning onto Homestead St from Garden Ave remain BUT more importantly this issue was just Closed because it was determined by an inspection that the fence is "not falling down" when in fact it is DOWN. There isn't a need to meet someone out there to discuss or look at the fallen fence; it needs to be tended to asap as well as the dangerous line-of-sight issues. No idea what property the inspector(s) is looking at to make such a statement, thanks for your prompt and proper attention. We recommend you go look at it yourself rather than continuing to depend on inspectors that must not be visiting the correct address.

There is no portion of the fence on the ground. The missing section of fence is not a violation. The overgrowth and bush in the line of sight has been forwarded to DGS. We have cited the property owner with all other possible violations.

thanks Rick for the quick and informative response; it went a long way towards our comprehension of what was happening -- we kept re-opening this because we did not understand that the missing fence was not a violation. Your answer cleared that up; we will sit tight about the other items that you've turned over to DGS and property owner.... appreciate it.
