So far there's been no enforcement of the new parking signs. I called in requesting it but no one was ticketed. When will enforcement of parking rules in these spots begin? Having the loading zone open for loading would help a lot with issues like this one.
Since August 1st, we have responded to, or self-initiated, 47 calls for service to address parking issues on Cambridge Park Drive. There has been a learning curve for some to adjust to the new parking protected bicycle lane (where the cars are parked away from the curb). The other issue seems to be a lack of on-street loading zone space relative to the number of delivery vehicles. Armored cars do not receive an exemption from parking in the crosswalk and we will ticket if violations are observed.
I am interested whether the police think that the new road layout is better or worse than the old one. By restricting the width of the road (by putting parking in the middle), the inevitable vehicles which double park or park in the bike lane cause significant problems. Assuming that everybody will only park in permitted locations is unrealistic (if it was true, then parking enforcement would not be required).
Maybe the time has come for the grand road marking experiment to be declared a failure.
Does anybody know what criteria/metrics are being used to determine if the new road layout is better than the old?
