May I please get the direction of travel?

The direction of travel referred is the west bound lane. More specifically the west bound left turn onto south smith. When I approach the red light going west, the light turns green to go straight but when I enter the left turn lane. I have to sit through a whole cycle before I get it gets back to me. That's about 5 minutes of sitting idle at 3am with no other vehicles in site. And since Lincoln freeway on ramp is closed, this is very inconvenient. Perhaps an adjustment for am traffic going west bound and south bound on smith going to maple can be better accommodated.
