Cars regularly exceed the speed limit on the whole stretch of 6th between Rhode Island and NY Ave.
This is a major public health hazard.
Please do something to reduce the incidence of speeding here (the Federal Highway Administration has many guides on the subject).
Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2C will address this issue with DDOT.
Changing the road pattern to something that looks like the 1600 block of 11th street would be ideal. Angled back in parking with dedicated left turn lanes and one travel lane in each direction with timed traffic signals could move the same volume of traffic much more safely, without the dangerous "rally car" type behavior that is constant on 6th st now. This section of Shaw is a residential neighborhood and the road should reflect this.
Cars routinely speed turning onto 6th from Rhode Island Ave. I was almost hit head on trying to turn into the alley on 6th about 45 mins ago.
This issue somehow did not get assigned a tracking number from DC311. If you want them to do something you're going to have to report it again and they'll put a tracking number in the comments so we can track progress.
Why reopen if you DC311 isn't aware of this?
Just duplicate this exactly how it is and be sure to do it from the website so it will be routed to 311 properly.
Thanks for your feedback Patti. However the road layout is a DDot issue and not something 311 can handle. Until 6th st gets a road diet this issue will remain open.
I'm sure that 311 filters these issues to DDOT. So you might still want to resubmit and be sure it gets to the right place. Bring on the Diet!
Sorry, this issue does not have any images or videos.
