Per our Engineering Department: The shadow on the road indicates the picture was taken after 6 p.m., after the contractor was gone for the day. The contractor spent all day Wednesday preparing the road for new curb while keeping the road open all day with traffic flaggers. The reason the road isn’t marked one way is because Schley Blvd is a two way street and will remain as such. It would have been appropriate to post a warning sign stating ABRUPT EDGE, however, the traffic cones along the edge are appropriate to call attention to be careful in a construction zone. Building a road while people are using it is much like building a house while you attempt to live in it. The best and safest option is to close the road and expedite the demolition and construction. We try to balance that with convenience for the motorists that want to use that route. Schley Blvd will need to be completely closed for the next couple days for demolition and utility work. By the first week in September the aspahlt road should be open for traffic in its new configuration. Thank you for your patience.
Yes your engineers are correct in saying Schley Blvd. is indeed a two lane road until the construction narrowed it down to a very narrow two lane road.
