As you exit from I-87 to Route 9 North, only a short exit ramp allows the opportunity to merge. In addition, vehicles needing to exit and then turn left onto Old Post Road have even less room to exit, merge, and then enter a VERY short left turn lane. (Try it sometime. It will scare you). More often than not, you have to either cut off traffic abruptly, or negotiate the EXCESSIVE curve of the exit too fast to race to the turn lane. What bright engineer thought this was a good idea???
