Re-timing Traffic Light is Archived 5 People want this fixed

I believe traffic would flow better here if this light was re-timed. North and southbound flows get green lights at the same time. With no left turn lanes, traffic becomes a standstill while those turning left yield to each other. This is especially bad at lunchtime during the week and during the afternoon rush when the office parks let out. I suggest allowing only northbound to go, then southbound. The nearby light at Windward and Alderman functions as I describe and traffic flows much better.

Thanks for informing the City of this situation. Staff from the Department of Engineering and Public Works have studied the intersection and have concluded based on today's traffic volumes the intersection operates more efficiently without the added protected left turn phase. Adding the protected phase for the southbound left turn is anticipated to increase the average delay for the intersection by over 12 percent or a total of 5 and a half hours during the PM peak hour. staff will re-visit this issue once school is back in session and determine if the lights need to be adjusted to accomodate the new traffic patterns due to school traffic patterns.

Is this because it would add to the red light time of east/west bound Windward traffic? While I'm disappointed that the light won't be adjusted, I appreciate the reply. If they revisit this issue, I suggest observing the intersection at approx 12:15pm and 5:15pm.
