I'm thinking that neighbors will have to LEAD the charge against these inconsiderate parking/blocking driveway people! In the past I have done the following. . . . . . . . . .
-- a "friendly" note could be placed on the windshield-- but also parking dept of HPD (7138538808 or 8323938664could be notified -- with the tag number and time the van is still there Kevia.Stroder@houstontx.gov -- is the liaison the civic center has had contact with--- wpate43@yahoo.com is the HPD officer at HPD storefront to send a message (plus paper complaint filed at storefront) to with tag number and address- and just for good measure a message could be sent to The mayors office and use this synopsis of the special meeting held by the storefront at the Mayors behest to bring sanity to the issue of parking/blocking sidewalk.
A quote from synopsis=>
Our local HPD substation is starting a 10-day initiative TODAY (Wednesday June 26), to try to stop people from parking across the sidewalk. In other words, for instance, someone in a townhouse who doesn’t have enough room to pull all the way up to the garage and get off the sidewalk. Or any other type of situation where vehicles (motorcycles included) block the sidewalk, making it dangerous for pedestrians, dog walkers, parents, and unstable people (walkers, wheelchairs, elderly, etc.) to pass by, because they are forced out into the street. Besides being dangerous, it’s illegal to block a sidewalk.
So, pardon the poor grammar… So, they will for 10 days leave notices on windshields of vehicles so parked, advising them of the danger they are creating for pedestrians, and of the law which prohibits parking blocking a sidewalk.
On Day 11, they will start writing tickets.
But ONLY if the sidewalk is mostly or completely blocked.
If it is still possible for pedestrians, baby strollers, wheelchairs, etc. to pass by safely, the cops will NOT write citations. Parking Management is also on board with this policy.
