Welcome to Troy. That awful smell are skunks nearby. It is a common occurance around Troy. I think that the animal control dept should start a program to get rid of some of these stinky skunks.

I've smelled skunk while driving and it's a lot more distinct than this... if it were skunks wouldn't the odor be constant? It seems to dissipate in the early morning hours and then return late at night as if it's a local factory operating at certain times. But, I really don't know much about skunk biology, so you may be right. Either way, something should be done! Thanks for the reply.

Do you live anywhere near the Ross Valve foundry on lower oakwood ave? It could be that.

This problem is occurring in South Troy between Madison and Monroe Streets and the one likely problem might be eminating from the Tri-State Electric plant in that immediate area. This is a very possible source of your burning rubber smell, as this odor is related to what this facility does.

It is probably the TRI-STATE ELECTRIC MOTORS facility located north of Monroe Street, the same side of the street as you. (the west side of Second Street) or possibly a scrapper in the alley btwn. First & Second Streets, south of Madison.

I live in South Troy and the burn plant in Menands smells real bad when the wind blows north I was told they don't burn anymore BUT if you smell it Drive south on 787 from the Menands bridge and the smoke is so black at night you can see it in Menands like they were burning tires IT'S STILL OPEN THEY BURN ABOUT 2AM SO NOBODY NOTICES. To me it smells like burning antifreeze mixed with tires.

it is coming from tri-state. i lived in this area for 25 years and i know exactly what you are talking about. fire department has visited them in the past but the continue to but toxic stuff in middle of residential area

It probably coming from the crackheads living down the street from you @ 307 2nd street
