Christian Life is building a Government Subsidized Housing Project in the backyards of nice, single-family, owner occupied houses.
The City of Rockford has not adhered to the City's rules for Special Use Zoning, Subdivision of Land, or Zoning Amendments.
A hearing to resolve this has been requested.
Support the adjacent homeowners. The RockfordFirst Church thinks it can do anything it wants "in the name of God" - even hurt it's neighbors.
I must agree! This is horrible. The construction has been dirty and no at all respective of the neighborhood. Mud in the road. Water, and now ice, pouring down the driveway. And the view!!! What a mess this made of the adjacent park, playground, and pool. The nuisance of the summer will be with us FOREVER as we have to look at the underside of cars parked above the pool house. This had decreased the value of the people here who pay taxes, and increased the wealth of the church that pays NO taxes. Alderman Wasco failed us on this, and will need to be replaced at the next election.
I disagree! Alderman Wasco does an outstanding job of fairly representing ALL citizen in his Ward - even those who are renters and do not pay property taxes! But we still live in Rockford, work in Rockford and work hard to support our local community! Christian Life Retirement Center is a beautiful facility, well maintained and managed. They do an outstanding job in providing excellence in housing for our seniors and is a great neighbor to have next to us!
If you like dead trees, instead of the promised landscaping, then Christian Life is a good neighbor. If you don't want to use the lights in your house, because Christian Life put in lights on the football field-after promising not to, then Christian Life is a good neighbor. If you want trash from football games in your backyard, then Christian Life is a good neighbor. If you don't mind noisy bleachers in your backyard-despite an agreement NOT to do this, then Christian Life is a good neighbor. If you don't mind the Pastor of the Church telling you he will never have time to talk to you-then you will feel right at home where RockfordFirst, neighborhood last.
When a neighborhood hates it neighbors adjoining their property, their grievances should not be aired to the whole city. If you do not like your neighbors, then move where their are not families enjoying a football games and sports events and seniors enjoying living in a lovely facility. Sounds like a move is the only solution because no matter what takes place on the corner of Springcreek and Mulford, you will still find fault and reasons to complain. The reality is that the 10 acrea facility takes pride in their building and their residents. The new addition will be lovely and will be a wonderful home for wonderful seniors. Turn your poolside chairs and face west!
Obviously a comment from a CHRISTIAN - if you don't like me, move. This has been the attitude for 30 years: RockfordFirst, neighbors last.
100% of the adjacent homeowners in attendance at a special meeting VOTED to pursue action against this project.
Normally if you have an issue with your neighbor, you talk to them. Christian Life has refused to speak-instead providing threatening attorneys as the mouthpiece of their god.
The land that is now Christian Life was originally to be single family homes-not a large, unfriendly corporation. 30 years ago the adjacent neighbors dropped their LEGAL objection to the retirement home in exchange for promises made by the Christians. These promises have now been broken-along with every other agreement between the neighbors and the Christians.
The grievances get aired to the city because the church refuses to address them. It isn't the residents that creekside doesn't like, it is the power's that be in charge over there at Christian Life and Rockford First. The church should never have been allowed to build a parking lot next to our pool. The pool is single family residential use in an existing neighborhood. No place for a parking lot. The homes were here first. The football games, and seniors came later.... If the residents moved, there would be new residents moving in that probably wouldn't like the noise, lights and garbage either. After all, this is a peaceful single family subdivision.
See "Illegal Signs posted elsewhere.
The Christians ignore the laws, rules and ordinances and place visual pollution all over the neighborhood. The small paper signs advertising an open house ARE NOT LEGAL. Report them here, to Alderman Wasco, or City Hall.
