Description

Ever since the water utility (Pennsylvania American) has stopped collecting the Alcosan sewage fees, the Brentwood government has contracted "Jordan Tax Service" (JTS) to collect the monthly residential sewer fees. Apparently, they gave JTS free reign to set the billing terms. So, they set a 10% late fee, 1.5% interest, and make the bills due 20 days from the bill date, then take their jolly time mailing the bill out. This assures that they collect a whole lot of those late fees! For example, this months billing date was Nov 27, but arrived today, December 5. It is then due December 17, but assuming the same mailing and processing time that leaves just 3 or 4 days to actually mail the bill back. Don't let that "Jordan Tax Service' letter get lost in the stack of other bills - which all have 28-day payment terms at the very least!

Isn't the privatization of vital government services wonderful!

We demand that the Borough renegotiate JTS's billing terms to conform with that used for all other PUC regulated utilities, including:

1. A minimum of 30-days between the bill date and the due date (i.e. end of the month)
2. Non-userous late fees and interest.

Dear Borough residents, please join me in voting for this demand. Thanks.
