This contractor was parking their black pick up truck on top of the crosswalk while doing some utility work in the manhole. The truck was blocking the visibility of people using the protected bike lane. I watched an E scooter user swerve around the front of the pick up to avoid the construction site and just about get hit by a passing truck who could not see her until it was almost too late. I told the contractor about this dang and incident I observed r and asked him to move his truck back into the open parking space which was there for quite a long time. The contractodidn't to move the truck until they were done with their j A worker in the restaurant we were dining at said that the construction crew was there all morning until we were thereob.

A couple times now I've noticed that the south-bound signal sensor isn't functioning properly. The north-bound lane will get all green signals and the south-bound signal will only show a flashing yellow left-turn signal after waiting a whole cycle. This only seems to be happening in the evening after 5 or maybe 6 pm.

There's a deep pothole just south of this intersection which can easily swallow a smaller wheel, like for a bike or motorcycle/ moped or smaller car. Needs filling ASAP please before someone gets hurt. Thanks.

This high-demand mid-block crossing zebra paint markings need to be repainted. The paint, which is critical to the safety of pedestrians crossing to be seen by oncoming motor vehicles, is mostly gone.
  • 4084 Van Atta Rd Okemos, MI, 48864, USA - Okemos
On the blind side of this hill in the north-bound lane is a large section of really bad asphalt that for some reason keeps getting skipped over by the repair crew that has fixed many other potholes on S. Van Atta Rd. this spring and other years. This is particularly dangerous as drivers and bicyclists have to swerve into the opposing lane to avoid hitting the bad section which as you can imagine is dangerous when doing so on a blind hill.

This perrenial pothole/ sinkhole is larger than ever. Simply throwing asphalt into it isn't working. Needs a permanent repair, please.
  • 1832-1844 Grand River Ave Okemos, MI, 48864, USA - Okemos
Grand River Ave. from west of the Dobie Rd./ Central Park intersection thru the Marsh Rd. and Okemos Rd. intersections are worse than worse. I've seen the MDOT repair crew out doing maintenance on M-43 not far from here further east; hoping that they do some substantial repairs thru the rest of M-43 in the Township. It's very rough driving a motor vehicle along here and 10x worse riding a bike. Thank you for the consideration.
  • 5300-5438 Van Atta Rd Haslett, MI, 48840, USA - Okemos
    N. Van Atta Rd. north of Tihart Rd. is in such bad condition that it would be safer if it were turned back into gravel. When I drive my van I spend more time in the center of the road straddling the yellow lines than driving in my lane to avoid all the awful potholes. It is very unsafe for motor vehicles and much worse for bicyclists who have to use it.

After reconstructing this intersection in 2018 water now runs over top causing very icy and dangerous conditions during the winter months. I personally slid part way thru this intersection this past winter and I've heard of others who also did. Seems like it needs a drain installed under it to prevent this from happening again this coming winter.

I was greeted with a bunch of orange cones placed on the narrow paved shoulder (which functions as the defacto bike lane for many bicyclists) along east-bound M-43 near Van Atta Rd. this evening. These are forcing bicyclists to swerve out into the motor vehicle travel lane where vehicles are traveling 55 mph or generally much more. Very unsafe. They should be moved off the paved portion of the roadway when nothing is happening as my photos show.
  • 1150 Kalamazoo Street East Lansing, Michigan - East Lansing
Another very popular off-road pathway, an extension of the Lansing River Trail, has been blocked off for pedestrian and bicyclists the past week or more with no safe accommodations provided for pathway users to get around the mess. Casual observations when passing by shows that people (some pushing babies in strollers) are walking out into the roadway and climbing down the embankment to get back to the River Trail. Photos show that the pathway is completely usable; it's unclear why, especially over the evenings and weekends why the pathway can't be reopened for the hundreds of people who use this pathway.
  • 3252 Mount Hope Road East Lansing, Michigan - Michigan State University
Yet another road construction sign is set-up in the paved shoulder which functions as a bike lane here forcing bicyclists to swerve out into traffic. Very dangerous. Please remind these contractors to stop putting their signs in the way of legal road users.
  • 4000 Van Atta Road Meridian charter Township, Michigan - Okemos
South Van Atta Rd. (and north from Tihart to Haslett Rd.) has so many large gaping potholes they're too numerous to count. A huge area that's falling off the face of the earth is in the north-bound lane on the large blind hill such that aware motorists are swerving over into the south-bound lane to avoid being swallowed by it risking their lives. The potholes and badly deteriorated shoulder/ edge of the road run from Grand River Ave. all the way to Jolly Rd. Since the road is closed except to local traffic due to the Jolly Rd. project perhaps repairs to Van Atta Rd. could be done w/out much disruption?
  • 1801 Central Park Drive Meridian charter Township, Michigan - Okemos
Some desperately needed repairs to Central Park Dr. appear to have mysteriously ceased around Belvedere (at least in the south-bound lane) leaving many gaping potholes just waiting to swallow the unwary wheel or bicyclist. Hopefully the maintenance crew will return to finish the job soon.
  • 2001 South M 43 Highway Meridian Charter Township Michigan - Okemos
These intersections are awful. Loose piles of sand/ debris in every corner, potholes galore. The debris is being created from the deteriorating road surface/ enlarging potholes. I believe these are two of the most accident prone intersections on Grand River Ave. after Hagadorn Rd.; they need serious help. There's a collapsing manhole cover on the north side of the Okemos Rd. intersection that had some asphalt thrown on it, so now it's only 1/2 collapsed. Some crashes can be caused by bad road conditions.
  • 2783 College Road Delhi Charter Township Michigan - Ingham County
The 3 construction signs on south bound College Rd. are placed in the bike lanes forcing the hundreds of bicyclists who regularly use this route (as it's one of the only relatively safe North-south routes in the county) to swerve out into the travel lane to avoid hitting them. These signs need to be moved so they're not blocking the bike lanes/ shoulder. There are more in the north-bound lane; not sure how many.
    Thank you.

There's a big section of concrete that has heaved and broken up that's quite hazardous as it's on a blind downhill corner of the path. The brush just 50 ft. east of the concrete problem has overgrown the pathway a lot making this already blind corner even more hazardous for pathway users especially as it's on a pretty steep little hill.
  • 114 Germany Road Williamston, Michigan - Ingham County
The SE corner of this intersection has disintegrated so badly it's over a 6" drop between the asphalt and the dirt. The resident has placed these objects in the area to help people avoid dropping a wheel into the huge pothole. Very dangerous esp. for unsuspecting bicyclists.
  • 5003 Hagadorn Road East Lansing, Michigan - Michigan State University
The pedestrian bridge repairs happening on the Hagadorn Rd. bridge over the Red Cedar has no safe accommodations for pedestrians needing to travel on the west side of Hagadorn Rd. There's no safe E-W crossing further south across Hagadorn and there's no safe accommodation for all the unsuspecting campus river trail users that come out to Hagadorn just south of the ped bridge. The temp. cement barriers that are blocking the west-most south-bound lane on Hagadorn Rd. taper over very close to the curb on the north side of the bridge and orange barrels are placed between those barriers and the curb to apparently prevent peds from attempting to use that as a safe way to get around the construction. Very dangerous situation that should be remedied ASAP before some pedestrians get hit walking in Hagadorn Rd.
  • 1761-1777 West Grand River Avenue Meridian Charter Township Michigan - Okemos

M-43 in both directions has many potholes and disintegration near the curb/ gutter from approx. St. Martha's church's east property line all the way to the intersection of Cornell Rd., then from Dobie and Grand River all the way past Okemos Rd. to the collapsing section near the intersection with Hamilton Rd. The 2 intersections, Okemos and Marsh Rd. are extremely rough even rough for motor vehicles much less bicycling which is what I do regularly along Grand River. I've seen some signs of limited pothole filling by hand shovels; the damage I'm observing up close and personal really needs skip paving particularly in the intersections which are more prone to crashing. I don't believe that these repairs can wait til 2023 for the planned major repairs.

Additionally, there are many manhole covers along this section of M-43 that are 2-3 inches lower than the adjacent roadway creating hazards for all road users. A couple were fixed the last time I reported these but many remain in both directions. Thank you for the consideration.
