Torrington Streets

In April 2008 a soft blockage in the main line on Wedgewood Dr. caused sewage to back up into our finished basement. The City of Torrington admitted their fault immediately and paid a cleaning company to come in and clean up for one whole week. Almost two years later we are still waiting for the town to settle with us for something more than $8,000.00 dollars. Estimates we have retained in the last 2 years have ranged from $22,000.00-$71,000.00. These estimates are for restoring our 3 rooms in the basement to their previous condition and not even looking at our losses of furniture and possessions from contaminated water. At present the City of Torrington's insurance company is pressuring us to sign a release for $8,000.00 which we haven't and Mayor Bingham is trying to say he can't get involved because the city's insurance co. and our lawyer AGREED on a settlement. This is not possible as only the property owners(my husband and I) could have signed a release on this, and we haven't. Two years without my downstairs, still paying taxes, and no help from the town.

SINCE STOP AND SHOP AND TARGET SPEEDING IS PREVELANT, DISPITE NUMEROUS CALLS TO THE POLICE WE CANNOT GET ANY PRESENCE TO SLOW DOWN. THIS IS DANGEROUS TO OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AND WHEN THE SPEED LIMIT IS 35 THERE IS NO NEED FOR 55 DURING THE DAY AND ATLEAST 65 AFTER DARK! OUR TAXES PAY THE COPS, LET THEM "PROTECT AND SERVE" AND KEEP OUR ROAD SAFE.

People are speeding from Walmart to Winsted on rte 183 .... turning left onto Country Club Rd and other turns off of 183 makes it very serious as I have seen many close calls with rear end accidents ..... ugh!!! They don't slow down when turn signals are on because they are speeding. Maybe a blinking yellow light would help.

It can be 3pm on a Sunday and this light is still activated. It holds up traffic for no reason. I personally believe it should be blinking yellow during off-hours so traffic can flow a little better through this area of town.

We need a stop sign coming up Culvert at the intersection of Washington ave.Cannot see oncoming cars when pulling out from Washington ave.

Almost EVERY day I am run into another lane because people do not know which lane they're supposed to be in. This is the intersection at the end of East Main, leading onto either South Main or Litchfield. I get beeped at, almost plowed into, and get the finger on a regular basis, and I am in the right lane! They are in the Litchfield lane and make a sharp turn into my South Main lane. Please re-paint lines or make a clear sign.
