Do you have a photograph of the holes? If these are a serious danger it seems that they should be fixed right away.
Also, have you thought about setting up a "watch area" for your local elected official so that he/she can be the first to know when problems like this are reported in the neighborhood?
Nope, I don't have photos of the holes in the southbound lane, and they are not terribly dangerous -- one can see them coming (separately, as they're some many yards apart) from quite a ways.
One is definitely a water-service access cover. I think it's the first of the two. The second, as I recall, is a normal pothole of degraded pavement near the curb at one of the side-street intersections.
About alerting officials: I ride all over the metro area but live in the City of Decatur proper. So, calling the public works folks (or elected types) may only prove useful in Decatur. And, Decatur is quite responsive and sharp about both hazards and citizen concerns.
We (the Virginia-Highland Velo riding club) encounter the holes referenced here most every weekend to some sardonic amusement at their longevity.
Last thing: I entered these hazards into the system at the request of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition who sent a message asking for input in time for a city-wide canvas of such.
I have yet to hear about how it all worked-out, the canvassing, etc., that is. I suppose I should visit ABC's website for an update.
Otherwise, you (or anyone interested) could e-mail ABC: email@example.com.
