Pothole Open

658 Gurley St Chattanooga, TN

This same pothole was filled approx 1 year ago. The temporary fix has eroded and needs to be addressed again. It seems that drainage from the apartment parking lot is a contributor to this ongoing problem.

Watkins & 14th St - Bubbling Manhole Archived

1408 S Watkins St Chattanooga, TN

This one is tied to the same line as is on Kelly St and when the Kelly St Manhole bubbles heavily, it sometimes backs all the way up to the Manhole on Watkins and 14th St

This is called a CSO (combined sewer overflow) This is from older sewer systems being combined with stormwater drains. When it rains heavily, the sewer drains fill up and spill out into the road.

Sewer water flooding into the streets. We need this fixed!!!

  We had some really bad rains on Wed March 9th and all the Bubbling Manholes were bubbling again.
  
  This time the city put notices the little warning stands out to stay away from the contaminated water as it was raw sewage.
  
  The manholes are tied to sanitary sewers which are still tied to some storm drains.
  
  The manholes on 23rd St between BI-Lo and 4th Avenue/Kelly all were overflowing too with the same warning signs.
  
  The Manhole at 20th and Kelly was bubbling again with the same sign posted
  The Manhole at 14th and Watkins was bubbling again with the same sign posted.
  
  When is the city going to fix these?
  They were supposed to be fixed Years ago.
  I reported this to Click Fix in 2009.
  
  Liz Henley reported 11 months ago that the Highland Park Sub-basin (which these manhole are in) would be the first area to have a model for a hydraulic system which would take 12 months. It might be nice to hear a progress report since we are coming up on that 12 month date.
  
  Of course a "model" is meaningless unless it is implemented so I'd also like to hear the status of implementation as well.
  
  I know the economy is bad, but this issue will still need to be investigated and resolved.
  I think it would be far more practical to separate the storm water from the sanitary sewer in this area, it's connected somewhere along that line of bubbling manholes or just up or down stream of them.
  This is a carryover from the EPA 1990-1995 Moratorium. (see earlier comments)
  
  (Note: none of these manholes I am reporting are in the boundaries of the Highland Park Neighborhood Association - a couple of their folks can be a bit techy when the H word is mentioned, lol so I am mentioning to soothe their potential ruffled feathers)

Flooding at Brainerd & East Brainerd Roads and Lee Highway Archived

6000 East Brainer Road Chattanooga, TN

Repeated flooding in the area from the Brainerd Road Bridge across South Chickamauga Creek to the bottom of the hill on Lee Highway and up East Brainerd Road including Chickamauga Road, Old Birdsmill Road and Bass Road. This area was flooded over the roads on September 24 and then suffered from water standing in the yards on December 8 due to heavy rains. In the past twenty five years, there have been five floods to cover the streets, some that were up to three or four feet high in houses in this area.

  This issue is still an open problem and should not be closed. The people in the neighborhood have not gotten any relief or any hope of having the cause of the flooding identified and handled. This problem is one that affects many businesses and residents in the area and so should be addressed further.

Flooding/damaged sidewalk Open

1609 Mitchell Ave Chattanooga, TN 37408

When it rains, a 10-foot long stretch of sidewalk on the corner of Mitchell and E. 16th is completely flooded.

My neighbors are forced to walk into the street, to avoid the puddle. It is a drainage issue and the water is always very muddy, from the run-off.

Storm drains facing wrong direction Open

624 E Main St Chattanooga, TN 37408, USA

Storm drains running parallel to the street are hazardous to cyclists. They should run perpendicular to the street to keep bicycle tires from falling into the grate.

leaves removal Archived

the leaves are choking the drainage ditches and need removed on this block and the next one too. this causes the road to be much more slick during the rain as the run-off is forced to cross the road here.

  The city came out and cleared the leaves from one section of the block, so they did respond, half-heartedly. Further up the block the leaves were not removed and so they washed down and clogged drains during the most recent storm.

mini man hole cover dip Archived

State Highway 27 Chattanooga, TN 37402, USA

there is a small manhole cover or drainage cover right after you get onto 27 from the MLK on ramp. It is sinking down probably 6 inches or more. When you drive over it, it is jarring enough to almost lift you off your seat. If a motorcycle goes through it, it could cause a serious accident.

Leaf Collection in Ridgedale/Oak grove/Highland Park Archived

The city of Chattanooga is only doing 2 sweeps of loose leaf collection for the entire season, according to one of it's 311 operators. And I've not seen one come through yet.

Ridgedale, Oak Grove and Highland park have rotting piles of leaves on curbs and running into and clogging storm water drains because it's 8 weeks into the collection season and no trucks have yet to come through...

  I apologize for the confusion regarding loose leaf pick up. There are vacuum trucks in all four areas of Chattanooga and they will be picking up loose leaves from now until March. Once the bulk of the leaves are picked up it will move much faster and we will get through the city several times. We are scheduling bagged leaf collection that are picked up within 3 to 5 working days. There is no way to schedule pick ups for loose leaves since we don't know how long the vacuum trucks will be at a certain address. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact us anytime.

  That's not specific enough for us to prevent leaves from being washed away down the city's storm drains.
  
  Why can't you have something posted on the city website that says,
  
  Truck one currently in "neighborhood A" and going to "neighborhood B" next, and in "neighborhood c" next"
  
  Truck two currently in "neighborhood x" and going to "neighborhood y" next and going to "Neighborhood z" after that.
  
  People could check your website periodically, and plan accordingly. If I knew it would be this long, I'd have composted or bagged the first batch, and kept an eye out for the trucks to come later to get later batches.
  
  I know you guys are probably reluctant to say what neighborhood is first or last, I understand someone has to be first and someone has to be last, just fess up and at least give us a clue as to how far out we are so we can plan accordingly. Hiding information to avoid complaints is not proactive.

  Another Thought is that neighbors could sign up for watch areas on SeeClickFix and 311 could sent alerts to neighbors letting them know that they were coming.

  The Vacuum Leaf Trucks are in Ridgedale this week. I saw them myself on 12/30 & 12/31/09. Another person saw them on Bailey but I don't know if it was earlier than that.
