The new bike lane going in on Elm St is on the right side of the street sharing space with the CT Transit Bus stop in the Green. Because of parking on the upper block, buses must cut across the bike lane to reach the stop and then swing wide into the bike lane to turn right on Temple. This is dangerous for cyclists! Bollards can't be installed because of the parking, which if removed could make way for a dedicated bus lane.
The right-hand side bike lane also prevents cyclists from safely turning left at Church or Orange, very popular routes to East Rock where many cyclists live. Bike boxes could help with this safety issue. Are there any planned?
Anyone have ideas on how to keep people safe on Elm St?
123 Church Street New Haven, ConnecticutI work on Church St near Chapel, and I'm really worried about people riding bikes on the sidewalk. In the past week, I saw an elderly person with a walker narrowly avoid getting hit and I was skimmed by the back wheel of a bike veering between walkers. There are bike lanes people can use on Elm and other streets.
Orange St And Center Street New Haven, ConnecticutThese are a hazard. The people on them are awful. They block traffic, they're slow, and they're rude. They don't move over. It's an embarrassment. If twelve young black men instead of twelve white drunk women were slowly riding their bikes through town blocking traffic you'd arrest them.
59 Elm Street New Haven, Connecticut
Hi, I stop at 59 elm very often in the morning and I have to tie my bike somewhere but there’s hardly a spot to do so. So I have to tie my bike to a pole but unfortunately that’s not even fixed to the ground so is pretty precarious.
I would be great to have a bike rack over there!
Grazie! Ringraziato!59 North Elm Street New Haven , ConnecticutPlease see picture. This is the only option for bike riders. The pole being used is not a permanent fixture, which can potentially cause damage. A bike rack would greatly benefit the community, as well as our establishment, located at 59 Elm St in New Haven.
200 Orange St New Haven, ConnecticutHey Bike New Haven, just wanted to let you know that the bike share rules! Also, I'm testing the new Bike Share category in SCF to make sure you're being notified when Bike Share issues are reported! Please acknowledge, comment, and close to verify everything is working! Hey SCF, my bicycle was stolen last night on Grand Ave near the corner of Atwater St around 9pm. It's super recognizable due to it's many custom parts. The frame is a silver FUJI SUNFIRE with a black SURLY fork, the handlebars are mustache bars with black grip tape, and there are black front and rear fenders. It's got a bunch of super recognizable stickers on the top tube and the down tube like black and white bumper stickers that read TROMAVILLE(top tube), ANDREW JACKSON JIHAD(downtube), a UCB sticker on the downtube near the crank, a red and black FIST OF DISHONOR sticker on the top tube, and a red heart shaped sticker on the rear fender. There were lights on it when it was stolen, the front light is green, so if you see a bike with a green front light I don't know anyone else who uses one so it’s probably mine.
If you see it please help me retrieve it! You can help in many ways, not limited to but including;
Letting me know you've seen it! You can call, text, or post here! It'll give me an idea of where to look.
Take a photo of whoever is riding it and post it here or text me!
If you see it locked up and are a cyclist with a bike lock of your own you can put your lock on it as well, get in touch with me, and we can meet up and remove your lock and my bike.
Tell a police officer if one is nearby that it's a reported stolen bike?
