The city should just ask Yale scientists for a top notch snow removal solution...like they did in Cambridge.
300 George St New Haven, CT 06511, USAGeorge St. downtown was very dodgy today at the pm rush hour, and needs salt. The buildings on either side are creating shadow, so the snow left on the street is not melting, and is making for a hazardous condition. Thx.· Reported by RR · Flag Flagged

A snow removal company (details listed below) was using gas powered leaf blowers at 5:00AM to blow some very light snow, waking up several people in the neighborhood and violating city ordinance.
The relevant city ordinance (below) allows exemptions for "Noise from snow removal equipment, provided it is maintained in good repair and exhaust is reasonably muffled," but a 2-stroke gas powered leaf blower is not normal snow removal equipment, and the equipment used was not reasonably muffled.
This company should be fined and the city ordinance should be amended to include a limited definition of snow removal equipment that includes plows, shovels, and snow throwers—not leaf blowers, which are the wrong tool for the job and inappropriately noisy.
Ironically, there was barely any snow. No reasonable person could justify making this kind of noise at 5:00AM.
Sec. 18-78. Exemptions and special conditions.
"The following shall be exempt from these regulations, subject to special conditions as provided herein:
(4) Noise from snow removal equipment, provided it is maintained in good repair and exhaust is reasonably muffled;"

One of the two employees present said his name was Dan (not shown), and he told me that the company was Upton, Inc.. The two were using a white pickup truck with CT license plate # 5135CA (see image)
341-381 State St New Haven, CT 06510, USAThe intersection built on state street for the pitkin tunnel has not been plowed once this entire storm. It is impossible to take a left into pitkin tunnel from state street or take a left onto state street from the pitkin tunnel. There is 2 feet of snow, which is turning into ice by now. The CT state DOT informed me it is not there responsibility to plow that section of Rt 5. It is a public safety concern.· Reported by Chris Abell · Flag Flagged

If it's spring, your parked car is in danger. At around 2 a.m. on Saturday, a drunk driver plowed into two parked vehicles across from Fuel on Chapel St. (Actually, the first parked vehicle hit the second and both appeared totaled.) This follows an incident last year when FIVE or SIX cars parked on Chapel were sideswiped by a drunk driver. On weekends when there aren't any wrecks, I can *hear* motorcycles and trucks speed up and down the narrow road.
Seriously, it's nice to have an officer ensure that people don't roll through the stop sign by the park but it would be even nicer if we didn't have drunk drivers, going to and from clubs, destroying property and putting lives in danger.
And this, friends, is why my car insurance has gone up since I moved from D.C. and Philadelphia to New Haven.· Reported by Bob's Mom · Flag Flagged
Temple St New Haven, USAThe "One Way" street sign on the left side of the street on Wall and Temple (going down Wall towards Church) [in the 67-100 block of Wall] has been plowed over by a vehicle. Just thought that the city might want to reinstall/fix this issue.
355 Norton St New Haven, CTI was not aware that the City of New Haven is now offering such personalized service. Shall I gather the residents of our street and have them all move their cars so that we can receive the same white glove treatment?· Reported by Beaver Watcher · Flag Flagged
