Ella Grasso Blvd At Whalley Avenue New Haven, Connecticut
Issue: Traffic light at Ella Grasso Blvd & Whalley Ave - the traffic light for cars traveling on the Blvd side (coming from the direction of Goffe St.), stays green for only a few seconds. Hence, the traffic backs up for several yards. Esp. between 4 - 6 pm, traffic backs up considerably. Only a few cars are able to cross Whalley before the light changes back to red. If a car is turning left onto Whalley, this holds up the lane of traffic even more as there is little or no room for cars to continue on by passing the car that is making the turn. The green light needs to last more than 5 seconds. In addition to adding more time to the green light, a left turn lane with a green arrow traffic light should be created so that traffic continuing straight on the Blvd can pass under the light before it changes back to red. Both of these changes need to be made as soon as possible, but adding more time to the green light for this side of the road is something that can be done immediately to help alleviate this inevitable, daily congestion.
