  • 43 Belmont St Hamden, Connecticut, 06517 - Hamden
Tree/ bushes blocking sidewalk. Couldn’t pass by with wheelchair
  • Dixwell Ave & Scott St Hamden, CT, 06514, USA - Hamden
A section of concrete is raised several inches above the flat walking surface of this sidewalk. This sidewalk corner and crosswalk features a tactile mat for those with vision impairments. The raised concrete causes an easy trip hazard to anyone who already expects the crosswalk corner to be unobstructed for ALL pedestrians of ALL capabilities, especially if a person steps to their left for someone approaching who needs to use the tactile mat for their cane, chair, or other travel aid. If you look closely, the concrete appears to be cut in such a precise manner that relieves the town employee of responsibility because "the concrete isn't blocking the crosswalk," but the white paint on the road being so close to the precision cut of concrete can just as validly be an offense to the ADA and lead any person who is crossing towards Scott Street directly into the obstructed path of the raised concrete that's sitting in the middle of the lowered surface of the crosswalk corner. This is not the only area in Hamden where the paint of a crosswalk directly leads straight into a raised obstruction that would qualify as ignoring the ADA and just general accessibility as that term exists. Whoever last worked on this sidewalk corner definitely knew about this, but chose a careless, dangerous, sarcastic, and (frankly in this situation) unlawful way to handle the situation. Please fix this. Thank you.

  • 2901 Dixwell Ave Hamden, Connecticut, 06518 - Hamden_Feature 001
The retaining wall between the Miller Library Building and the DeMatteo Building at 2911 Dixwell Avenue is a safety hazard. I do not know if this wall is town property but the top 3 levels of brickwork is not secure and many bricks have fallen! Many more are detached and ready to come down. The structural integrity of this wall is totally compromised and should be inspected as soon as possible to prevent any pedestrian injuries or the total collapse of the wall.

  • 616-636 Newhall St Hamden, CT, 06517, USA - Hamden
Cars continue to park on sidewalk in front of no parking signs all along this area, again the signs are being damaged or removed for this ever ongoing issue. If they could park there without blocking the sidewalk, it would most likely be permitted. Please enforce the posted no parking signs blocking handicap egress to this area or remove them and create more sidewalk. The Federal enforcement agency has been notified of the ADA violation to assist in motivation for enforcement.
