This Could Be a Periodic Table Mural

"We are proposing to create a series of large scale murals to engage the public in an educational, informative, fun, and endearingly nerdy way. By incorporating the following seven elements from the periodic table: Scandium, Iodine, Nitrogen, Cerium, Phosphorus, Argon, and Potassium; along with the formula for Ammonia (NH3) we wish to create a series of murals that vertically spell out “Science Park”. The proposed title is the Periodic Table Mural Project."

This Could Be an Edward Bouchet Mural

"I plan on creating a mural portrait of scientist Edward Bouchet who the first African American person to receive a doctorate in America in 1876. He was born in New Haven, was the valedictorian at The Hopkins School, earned his diploma from New Haven High School, and earned his PhD in physics from Yale University. Bouchet’s dissertation was on measuring refractive indices, thus the background of this mural will consist of bright planes of color portrayed in a series of abstracted, refracted light patterns. This historical and inspirational work of public art is the Edward Bouchet Mural Project." - Kwadwo Adae

This Could Be a Better Gateway

"Town Green District would like to sponsor revitalization efforts at the intersection at State and Chapel Street in order to promote walkability and connectivity between two key New Haven neighborhoods. The project includes repainting of bridge railings, landscaping enhancements, and a sculptural gateway over Chapel Street. The gateway is envisioned as a piece of public art, developed by local art studio Atelier Cue, in close partnership with community and stakeholder groups in both Ninth and Wooster Squares. The final design of the gateway, as well as the naming of the project, will be realized through a collaborative visioning process led by Atelier Cue. "

This Could Be a Mobile Learning Corridor Market

"The Mobile Market will support a “Learning Corridor Market,” by supplying affordable produce, training local residents to staff the farmstand, and otherwise complementing community building activities in Newhallville’s Learning Corridor, in partnership and under the leadership of Doreen Abubakar, head of the Community Placemaking Network. Ms. Abubakar’s work on the Corridor in Newhallville - developing a space for local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, community members to gather and learn skills, and for people to gain access to healthy food options, led her to ask for Common Ground’s partnership in this project. This Could Be a Light Kiosk

"Artspace, in collaboration with Designer-Social Innovation Fellow Daniel Pizarro, and Environmental Activist Doreen Abubakar, plan to activate a section of the Farmington Canal Trail in Newhallville known as the Newhallville Learning Corridor (between Starr and Hazel St). Pizarro will lead a team of 8-12 high school students who attend Metro Business Academy and Hillhouse High School in an 8-week design/build workshop to produce a set of handsome cedar kiosks that will be focal points for neighbor organizing and engagement. Working under Daniel, and aided by local artist Kim Weston, the students will design the kiosks to serve as combination sculptures, communal bulletin boards, and beacons of light.:

    A Mural

"Site Projects is pleased to announce our commission of an original and enormous mural in the Ninth Square by Uruguayan street artist David dela Mano. Internationally-renown, the artist’s iconic work is boldly graphic, at once figurative and abstract. Painted only with the color black, his images suggest shadows, silhouettes or puppets from folk tales, comics or science fiction about living beings and creatures living in imaginary times. Both adults and children will appreciate the artwork’s fanciful, humorous and/or profound meanings. Opportunities to observe the artwork in-progress and speak with the artist will be facilitated by lectures and a block party. "
