I do not know at what time exactly my basement flooded during the rain/flood event of June 25th/June 26th Detroit. I knew I had rained overnight. On Sat. the 26th, I learned that a neighbor's basement had flooded considerably and that he still had water in his basement. Then I went to look in my basement. The floor seemed moist--it is a Michigan basement- but I did not see standing water. I at first felt lucky. I was lucky in 2014 that my basement did not flood during that big rain that caused serious basement flooding in places like Dearborn and Huntington Woods for example. But then I noticed water marks on furniture and wood inlay even peeled off the bottoms of vintage furniture. I noticed the more than summer older house smell. Dark smelly water backed into my clothes washing machine. Fortunately, my clothes dryer still works. So does my hot water heater. It appears my furnace works. I noticed wet drawers in a toolbox that was on the floor. I found that some boxes that had been stacked on pallets to be off the ground--had gotten wet anyway. I sprayed the boxes with "Concrobium" hopin it could stop mold growth. and moisture spread inside the boxes and to other boxes and contents--many of which, but not all, are books. I can not get to the boxes easily because a heavy rolled up rug is sitting fortunately high enough out of the water, but in front of the boxes. I cannot move that by myself. How old is senior? I do have lower back problems. The City said in zoom meeting we can submit further evidence. I don't know how to upload them but I have photos. I suspect the dark/sewer (?) (It does smell like sewerish water--not clean) water backed up through the floor drain(s). I did not see it. But fortunately, most of the water had already gone back down. I am guestimating the timing of the rainfall and flooding below. I do not know for sure. I knew it had rained but I did not get up in the middle of the night and go into my basement. I ran a dehumidifier in the basement for a week plus after the flood to try and take out moisture and prevent mold, etc. I was scheduled to go out of town, so this was very stressful to me to have to turn the dehumifier on and pray. I did also spread baking soda on the floor to help with the bad smell. I need help. I hope I can save items in the basement.

The storm caused an accumulation of 3 feet of water and damaged the following structures: wood paneling, dry wood in a separate room in the basement , the door, walls, flooring, furnace, hot water tank, sofa, and mattress. These structures need to be replaced, the structures affected cleaned and sanitized, and any mold on surfaces remediated. All items damaged in the basement needs to be removed and placed in a dumpster and thrown away. The walls need to be painted and old flooring replaced. The source of water sewage backup needs to be investigated, including the water piping that leads to and from the city water piping in the basement, backyard and alley and/or at the level of the street.
