City of Oakland Private Property - Code Enforcement PLUS

Looked for a permit and could not find one. Currently property is being gutted. Last week there was a dumpster filled with asbestos removed from the home.

There are various parts of our roof that are leaking. This is a 4-plex and most of us have had issues with leaks during this rain. This has been an ongoing problem for the last several months but our landlord refuses to repair the roof. When the roofers have come to look at it they say that the entire roof needs to be replaced and that they have come to look at it in the past and told the landlord to replace it but he will not. We don't know what else to do.

Stairs have been blocked off for 3 months. Landlord refuses to move debris off the stairs. If there is a fire that breaks out in the first apartment, we would be trapped. We have seen people working on the stairs. The stairs are finished. He just doesn’t want anybody walking on them.

Back in November Thanksgiving weekend of 2021, my room got flooded out due to the roof being rotten and water build up over the room I am renting out. The landlord never fixed the problem the correct way (just had someone come and sweep out the puddle of water that built up over the roof of my room. With this, water seeped through a hole directly over the roof of my bedroom, which then came through the lighting in my room causing damage to my bed/bedding and mattress. I formally advised landlord of my 30 day notice due to signs of mold on my personal items as well as a distinct smell in the room. Where I deem my health and safety and have not been physically staying in my room because of that. I was advised from the person who came to sweep the water out of the roof. That I have black mold and the roof needing to be properly fixed.

No heating, bad electrical poorly built addition to a house

Graffiti on their garage; exterior of house is dingy/moldy. Needs to be power washed or repainted. Lack of maintenance.

an electrician over a month ago came by and said our circuit breaker was mostly not grounded and is likely not up to code. our heater has also not been in working condition, and not giving any heat, since moving in 8 months ago.
