City of Newark PLUS

This property at 70 Shephard Ave. has been abandoned for about two years. I had to beg the city to come and cut down some of the vegetation last summer. As summer approaches is growing again. I have to pay my landscapers to maintain the curbside grass. I spend my mornings cleaning up bottles and litter from in front of that house so that it won’t blow onto my property next-door. I bought signs from Amazon. “please do not litter” and “private property” to keep people from throwing litter on the lawn.

several broken basement windows where my son can fall through while playing. unkept and overgrown front and back grass. brings rodents. raccoons. opossums. etc. squatters in and out.

Cars park in this empty lot next my house. And drive on the sidewalk to gain entrance or exit. Which the use my driveway cutout where they have to squeeze by my steps. I have grands that play in front of the house in the side walk to now I have worry about a car coming down the side or hitting my car or whoever parks close to the driveway The white van owner does this on a regular This has become the parking lot for the neighborhood Is it possible for the city to put a fence up or fine the owners of the lot to secure there property If you inspect it there is illegal dumping along the fence line from the neighboring houses ..h.r.. .

I had reported this issue several times. This vacant house has debris, garbage etc. Can anybody please help?

This 290 - 292 17th Ave Property is endangering my safety and my property safety because i shared a space with the property but one of the occupants that lived there before the fire that occurred on December 24, 2025.
On December 30,2025 they break down the drywall, removed the panels and are now tampered with the space that my property shared with 290 17th Ave, Newark, NJ that have my gas line.
I verbally told guy that my gas line is in between the space that they tampered with.
The guy told me he is not blood related to the deceased that owned the property. I was also verbally told that the house is going for foreclosure, and that they removed the drywall and some other things so it can reduce the price at foreclosure, but they are tampering with the space in between the two properties that my property shared with 290 17th Ave, Newark, NJ and thereby endangering my property and life because my own gas line to my kitchen are in the space that the former occupants of 290 17th Avenue, Newark, Nj are tampering with.
On SAturday, January 4, 2026 i heard a vibration in my kitchen and the vibration is due to whatever the unauthorized person is doing inside the abandon property and I call the POlice department. I also call the Police Department this morning and I was told to keep calling the City of Newark to come and seal off the property because of safety issue.
Please can the City of Newark come and seal up 290 17th Ave, Newark, Nj?
The owner died and the occupants when the fire started are not related to the owner as he told me so they are actually squatters because he was the one that told me that the mortgage was not paid and the blood relatives are fighting over it.
But they are being all the breaking of the sheet rocks/ drywall.

The owner of this neglected lot needs to fence it in to prevent: weekly furniture dumping, trespassers injecting drugs, trespassers fornicating. This would save the city money by not having to clean it up and would preserve the rights to peace of people who live in that area

squatters appear to drink excessively, leaving bottles of alcohol. debris. and trash outside

City owned property that needs to be inspected and knocked down or gated. My personal safety and that of my family is a concern. it is often people who come to this address...This could be avoided with gate put up by City. Also the debris from the house falls on my house and the house needs to be knocked down as it is a hazzard.
