185 Eastern St New Haven, Connecticut, 06513 - Fair Haven Heights
Eastview Terrace II (Elm City Communities)
The vertical level change at the bottom of this access ramp exceeds the "absolute maximum" allowed by about two inches.
I did not trespass and it appears that most of the ramps are at the back of the buildings. This appears to be an installation error, so it is likely to be repeated.

Accessibility for Persons with DisabilitiesAcknowledgedBella Vista Deli - Fair Haven HeightsThe front handicap door on 321 Eastern Street in New Haven, Connecticut has been out of order since the beginning of the 2024 summer season. I am also sending a report to Fox News and Newsmax about this problem, with hopes they will bring attention to Carabetta's refusal to get it working properly. Handicapped individuals are at risk because of this problem, and the city of New Haven does nothing about it. Residents will hold the Mayor of New Haven responsible for doing absolutely nothing. There are 325 residents in this building.

52 USC §20102 "each political subdivision responsible for conducting elections shall assure that all polling places for Federal elections are accessible to handicapped and elderly voters."
2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design Advisory 206.2.1 "Site Arrival Points. Each site arrival point must be connected by an accessible route to the accessible building entrance or entrances served. Where two or more similar site arrival points, such as bus stops, serve the same accessible entrance or entrances, both bus stops must be on accessible routes. In addition, the accessible routes must serve all of the accessible entrances on the site."

164 Sherman Ave New Haven, Connecticut, 06511 - Edgewood
This woman is riding her wheelchair in the roadway to get from the entrance to St. Raphael's Hospital to the municipal parking lot across the street because the sidewalk - from a hospital to a municipal parking lot directly across the street - is not traversable to someone in a wheelchair.
Why was this allowed to happen? Disparate Impact is the inevitable result of discrimination against people with disabilities. When an urban municipality does not meet its obligations to provide access to people with disabilities, that discrimination will fall disproportionately on low-income communities and in America that means non-white communities.
This neighborhood, according to Datahaven is 22% White..

182 York St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Dwight
This detectable warning on the NW corner of Chapel and York has worn into a trip hazard. It is sheer and offers less slip resistance than the concrete it is set into.
Specifically, this violates 28 CFR 35.133 "(a) A public entity shall maintain in operable working condition those features of facilities and equipment that are required to be readily accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities by the Act or this part."
"Detectable warning" does not mean that a person should be able to detect the entrance to a roadway by sliding on the warning and falling.

Common Ground High School - West RockThere is no sidewalks from SCSU- Common Ground- to the Westfield apartments and as one of those children, with autism on SSI walks this path every weekday for school. A sidewalk needs to be implemented as the roads are dangerous and cars consistently speed around the corners and cross the lines that the kids walk down. A sidewalk needs to be added before anyone gets hurt.
-
Ramsdell St & Whalley Ave New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - AmityThe intersection of Whalley Avenue and E Ramsdell St. has a very busy intersection with a crosswalk that is not ADA friendly to people with hearing disabilities. The crosswalk does not indicate when it is safe across the street, nor does it indicate that it has successfully activated by pushing the button.

Clark St New Haven, Connecticut, 06511 - SOHUI'm not sure what to report because I'm not sure what this structure that runs the length of Clark St. is or why it's here.

464 Central Ave New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - WestvilleSidewalk in front of 101 W Elm in horrible disrepair. Limits accessibility and is a trip hazard. Not ADA compliant.

Barnett St & Fountain St New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - WestvilleNew curb installed at the corner of Fountain and Barnett doesn't have a ramp for the Barnett crossing. It seems like this doesn't meet ADA standards for new construction - and is a problem for people pushing strollers at an intersection where cars make quick, sharp turns.
