Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledgedGrand St & Marin Blvd Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Why was my previous request archived???
I was walking my baby in our stroller along with my dog and almost got hit by a car in this corner TWICE. Care turning off of grand street to Marin are super aggressive. I’ve also seen multiple people almost get hit here beside me, and know a biker was killed in this location.
This intersection is an issue because many people get off the highway and use this to cut through downtown. Either there is a red left turn signal and/or something, this intersection needs help.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledgedBerry Lane Park Union St, Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - Bergen-LafayetteI have noticed multiple requests to either add multiple stops signs or traffic lights along Garfield Ave near Berry Lane Park. It’s tragic when elected officials brag about a new development just to flake on community safety. Students, elderly residents, pet-owners, etc. should’nt have to deal with speeding and drivers who refuse to stop. If you want more people to move here, the least you can do is protect them.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledgedSt Pauls Ave Jersey City NJ 07306, United States - Journal SquareBtwn Bevan and 139 on Saint Paul's it is a 2 way road. The only reason it's two ways if for the awful parking lot that serves zero purpose for the community considering all of the buildings in this block, have gated parking with hundreds of spots available to them. This area is incredibly dangerous for pedestrians AND drivers because people are driving into oncoming traffic to go around everyone waiting at the stop sign to turn right onto 139. There should be a bump out here after the lot entrance or some other way to prevent people from driving into oncoming traffic. It happens every morning all morning and it is very dangerous. My real opinion is that this entire stretch of road should be a dead end so this street ceases to be used for cut through traffic.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledged235-249 Brunswick St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownThe intersection of Brunswick and Pavonia is extremely dangerous. Countless times drivers do not stop or even slow down as they travel on Brunswick from 9th street towards 8th street. It is as though the stop sign there does not exist. I have been almost hit while walking my dog multiple times because someone did not stop. This is extremely dangerous because of the public park with a child playground and water pad as well as the dog groomer located on pavonia adds increased dog traffic in this area. I believe what is needed here is a raised crossed walk to bring the pedestrians up to eye level with the drivers as well as it creates some speed mitigation. Installing a speed hump further down the block would not stop drivers from blowing through the stop sign.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledged211–215 Coles St Jersey City 07302, United States - DowntownWith all the new apartment buildings in the area, a safer pedestrian walkway under these overpasses would be greatly appreciated. It’s dark, sidewalks are filthy and not ADA accesible, and cars are constantly speeding. Make JC a safer place!

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledged17th St & Coles St Jersey City, NJ, 07310, USA - DowntownHello. This is not my first and probably will not be my last complaint lobbied about this intersection. This intersection is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS for pedestrians, especially with kids and pets, crossing. And where do kids and pets like to go? Across the street into Coles Park. A dog was hit and killed in this area last week. I was nearly struck with my pet twice in the last week. My husband was nearly struck and hit with our dog today because someone sped up towards the flashing lights. I wanted a woman nearly get hit this morning and the driver rolled down his window and cursed at her. THE FLASHING LIGHTS ARE NOT ENOUGH. PLEASE STUDY AND FIX THIS INTERSECTION. I do not want to go outside just assuming it's only a matter of time until me and my dog are hit and injured or worse.

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsAcknowledged194 Wayne St Jersey City NJ 07302, United States - DowntownWayne Street between Monmouth Street and Brunswick Street is considered an Access Easement, but drivers frequently use it as a shortcut to skip the traffic light at Monmouth and Columbus Drive or a shortcut from Brunswick to Monmouth to avoid the traffic light at Montgomery Street. Drivers frequently race down this narrow access easement at high speeds. Previous signage indicating the status of Wayne Street is old and illegible at this point. Please consider posting new signage of the status of Wayne St., multiple speed bumps / humps, a reduced speed limit of 10 or 15mph, and additional enforcement.

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsAcknowledgedCongress St & Palisade Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The HeightsSomething like 30-50 / hr buses try to squeeze through the block of Congress between Paterson Plank and Palisade—plus hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians. The onstreet parking of 20 cars should be banned during the morning rush. It makes difficult for buses to turn and reduces visibility of pedestrians at crosswalks. This would be a minor inconvenience for 20 people easing travel for thousands.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestAcknowledged686 Bergen Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - McGinley Square
Today I saw for the millionth time a pedestrian who waited until a break in cars, crossed into the marked crosswalk, but had fast-moving cars speed up dangerously and attempt to mow the walker down! This has also happened to me personally. This crosswalk has signs but no lights. It is not adequate for safety. Drivers do not stop! Drivers do not seem to understand how crosswalks work.
Here's information about a study that shows cars need to be moving slower than 20mph to reliably stop for a pedestrian as required in a crosswalk, regardless of signage or laws: https://usa.streetsblog.org/2023/01/11/want-drivers-to-stop-at-crosswalks-slow-them-down-first/
Please consider:
-lowering speed limit for stretch of Bergen between Communipaw and Montgomery
-marking crosswalks in this section with lights (currently only the ones in front of the school a few blocks down have flashing lights)
-ticketing more for crosswalk or speeding violations in this area
Thank you very much

cars often turn from reservoir to lienau at high speeds and/or speed down the one-block stretch before reaching a dead end at booream.
the "no parking" section on the west side of the street that could benefit from a curb extension or alternative features to calm speeds.
