  • 470-478 Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
Very dangerous crossing Newark Ave and Waldo Ave, especially during rush hour. Oftentimes, when waiting to cross, cars speed along Newark Ave with complete disregard for the neon yellow Pedestrian Crosswalk sign. Equally dangerous are cars turning right onto Newark from Waldo - the other I was crossing from the north side of Newark towards Waldo when a car traveling down Newark towards downtown stopped to let me cross BUT another car on Waldo turning right on Newark did not see me and started springing forward. I was pushing an infant in a stroller and had to stop real quick. Even the car that had stopped for me was honking its horn. This cross-walk is really dangerous for pedestrians, and I think there needs to be a traffic signal added because the drivers really have zero regard for any crosswalk signage.
  • 282 St Pauls Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
there is a four-way stop on St. Pauls and Liberty Ave. but cars are constantly running through it; potentially hazardous
  • 145 Sussex St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
I live near the corner of Van Vorst and Sussex and frequently drive down Van Vorst. There is currently parking on both side of the street and two-way traffic. There simply isn’t room for 4 cars on Van Vorst. Cars frequently cannot turn onto the street and are forced to back up into traffic, and visibility turning onto the street is very difficult and last night I witnessed a fender bender as a result. The street can support only three cars, so either it should be turned into a one-way street or parking eliminated from one side.
  • John F Kennedy Blvd & Journal Sq Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square

As a result of the construction start on the Kushner towers on the east side of Bergen Ave. & JFK Boulevard at Journal Square, pedestrians have been pushed off the sidewalk into a narrow 5-ft. path. Complaints to Hudson County resulted in widening the path between the north crosswalk and the PATH station and setting back the construction fence at the two crosswalks.

This is being posted on both the Hudson County and Jersey City SeeClickFix websites because both have jurisdiction over the pedestrian walkway. Jersey City is responsible for the south crosswalk and Bergen Ave. Hudson County is responsible for the north crosswalk and JFK Boulevard.

The flimsy 6-ft. plastic barriers installed along the east side of the intersection will never stop an errant car traveling at 40MPH. There are (20) 6-ft. barriers spanning from south of the south crosswalk to north of the north crosswalk. This is where pedestrians are most vulnerable to errant cars turning left to proceed northbound on JFK Boulevard and where they have the least protection.

NONE of the plastic barriers are completely filled with water. 10 are maybe 2/3 full and the other 10 are empty. These barriers are supposed to be interlocked and pinned together through the holes in the ends. I counted a total of 6 pins.

Most of the empty 6-ft. barriers can be moved out of place by shoving them sideways. This will not protect pedestrians from an errant vehicle. ALL of these flimsy barriers should be replaced by NJ concrete barriers.

On the east side of the intersection, the north and south crosswalks are 12’ wide. The distance between them is 80’. At the north side of the north crosswalk, the south 6-ft. plastic barrier blocks 3’6” of the crosswalk. At the south side of the south crosswalk, the north 6-ft. plastic barrier blocks 9” of the crosswalk.

The Kushner contractor only used 20-ft. NJ concrete barriers. 10-ft. and 12-ft NJ barriers are readily available. The contractor must be compelled to install NJ concrete barriers along the entire length of the pedestrian walkway without restricting the width of the crosswalks.

  • 671 Palisade Ave Union City 07307, United States - The Heights
Based on today’s death but also on general experience please study the safety of pedestrian crossings on this street

Grand St & Washington St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - The Waterfront
My children are bussed from PS 16 to Danforth. I am becoming increasingly concerned with the lack of a safe area for the numerous buses to pull over on Grand and Washington. Every morning and afternoon the buses gridlock the street, and create major traffic because there is not adequate parking for the 6 plus buses that are needed to facilitate getting these spillover children to their Danforth school. Children are forced to walk into the street to get to their double parked buses- it's an accident waiting to happen. How do we go about removing residential street parking on Washington Street from Grand to Sussex to help with this issue? If you stop allowing residents to park on Washington in front os PS 16, it will greatly expedite the bus situation and make things MUCH safer for pedestrians and drivers in that area.
  • Christopher Columbus Dr & Marin Blvd Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Longer green light for cars to turn from Christopher to Marin Blvd. Adjust street so less congestion.
  • 615 Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ 07306, USA - Journal Square
Journal SquareD allows moving trucks, delivery trucks, and even residents' cars to block the sidewalk and crosswalk constantly. It is a safety hazard making it impossible to cross the street with a clear line of sight towards oncoming traffic. This has been going on for YEARS, however the attached photos are some of the most egregious behavior I have witnessed. They're allowing moving vans to completely block the sidewalk instead of having the vans INSIDE the building's loading zone where they are supposed to be. Furthermore, residents block Pavonia with their vehicles to drop off groceries or to pick something up from their apartments. They just turn on the hazard light blinkers and take a leisurely stroll to their unit for whatever reason. Plenty of Uber cars idle outside and the delivery vans never venture to the interior of the loadinv zone. They are constantly on the sidewalk either doing some dangerous maneuver or sitting, blocking pedestrians' pathway.  This is not a rare occurrence by any means. Please fine Journal Squared and instruct them not to block PAVONIA AVE, the CROSSWALK, or the SIDEWALK. I usually try to avoid that side of the street altogether but the ongoing construction on Homestead place forces people to cross towards Journal SquareD side and it is not safe. Also, I want to mention that vehicles exit the Journal SquareD garage/loading zone at unsafe speeds to get onto Pavonia very often. Overall, it is a nightmare for pedestrians.
  • Grand St & Jersey Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
With the recent explosion of traffic on Jersey Ave due to the direct link to Liberty State Park, the intersection at Jersey Av and Grand St has turned into a nightmare. There need to be dedicated green lights for turning left as well as dedicated safe crossing time for pedestrians instead of having to negotiate with frustrated drivers turning left. Big safety issue and very disappointing that the city did not address this before opening the floodgates.
  • Booraem Ave & Central Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The Heights
There needs to be a stop light on the corner of booraem and central crossing into Pershing park. Over the weekend my partner and two dogs almost got hit by a reckless driver while crossing central in the crosswalk at noon!! This isn’t the first time almost been hit 3-4 times last few months!! It’s also difficult to make a left turn from Booraem onto central at that intersection because it’s blind. Cars are always speeding excessively. If there’s a stoplight at prospect and central which has much less foot traffic why not booraem and central? Many families are so scared to cross the street here because people do not stop! The current lighting there does absolutely nothing to stop these cars when people are crossing. Please do something before people get seriously hurt!!
  • 147 Palisade Ave Jersey City, NJ 07306, USA - The Heights
the curb extension at Hopkins and Palisade was never completed. as a result people continue to frequently Park in the crosswalk while getting Dunkin' donuts. while each car is only there for a few minutes, the near endless string of people parking there means that this crosswalk is blocked nigh on constantly. Freaking do something
  • Central Ave & Hopkins Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - The Heights
During an afternoon walk, I witnessed the aftermath of a terrible accident that occurred on the corner of Central and Hopkins Avenue. Where you see the orange in the picture is where the victim was on the ground badly hurt. Her lower left leg had been sheared to the bone from the ankle up to the knee on the inside. It was horrible and she lost so much blood. I hope she is ok. I think she was taken to Jersey City Medical.
In the meantime, I have to tell you that this intersection is very unsafe. There is a school across the street and usually a school crossing guard. It needs a TRAFFIC LIGHT. Please do something. I don't know that a traffic light would have helped this woman, but I don't know that it wouldn't have either. This is a terrible situation.
