Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconocido340 Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ 07302, USA - DowntownThe intersection of Newark, 5th and Merseles is a tragedy waiting to happen during morning rush hour as kids are crossing on the way to PS5. There is no stop sign, traffic light to protect pedestrians in the crosswalk. Drivers ignore the flashing crossing lights and turn a 2 lane road into 4 as the cross the median and pass vehicles on the right OR LEFT to get by the cars that DO stop for pedestrians. They also ignore the crossing guard (who has been absent the past week). The 25mph speed limit is ignored as people are doing 40. In the few weeks school has been open, there have been close calls even when the crossing guard is there holding up a stop sign. The construction at the intersection also limits sidewalk space.

686 Bergen Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - McGinley Square
Today I saw for the millionth time a pedestrian who waited until a break in cars, crossed into the marked crosswalk, but had fast-moving cars speed up dangerously and attempt to mow the walker down! This has also happened to me personally. This crosswalk has signs but no lights. It is not adequate for safety. Drivers do not stop! Drivers do not seem to understand how crosswalks work.
Here's information about a study that shows cars need to be moving slower than 20mph to reliably stop for a pedestrian as required in a crosswalk, regardless of signage or laws: https://usa.streetsblog.org/2023/01/11/want-drivers-to-stop-at-crosswalks-slow-them-down-first/
Please consider:
-lowering speed limit for stretch of Bergen between Communipaw and Montgomery
-marking crosswalks in this section with lights (currently only the ones in front of the school a few blocks down have flashing lights)
-ticketing more for crosswalk or speeding violations in this area
Thank you very much

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconocidoColes St & I-78 W Jersey City, NJ, 07310, USA - DowntownHere is where I might die. More development means more pedestrians on Coles under that overpass thingy by Moishe's. Total blind left curve for drivers turning off Coles into the little street connecting to the tunnel entrances. Dark under there. Even if we had a little push light to do the flashing pedestrian warning.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconocido296 Palisade Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The HeightsCars very often don't stop for pedestrians crossing Palisade at this crossing on Booraem Ave. Yesterday, 6/29 I stopped before the crossing to let a couple with a baby stroller to cross. They waited for the coming traffic to stop which tool awhile. When they started crossing they were almost hit but a car that came behind me on the right. Some drivers are just reckless. This guy then yelled at this couple for crossing Palisade. Can we have more police presence here to calm these type of drivers please? Maybe blinking light signs here would help? Thank you.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconocidoSip Ave At Garrison Ave Jersey City, NJ 07306, USA - Journal Square
There are two crosswalks here, and Sip is a busy road. People are constantly speeding down the hill from JFK and almost hitting people in the crosswalk
Is there any sort of traffic calming that can be added here?

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsReconocido32 Claremont Ave Jersey City 07305, United States - Bergen-LafayetteClaremont is a two way street which allows parking on both sides of the street. If two cars are coming in opposite directions there is no room to pass. This street should be a one way street or have parking on only one side

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsReconocido443 Ogden Ave Jersey City 07307, United States - The HeightsSomething like 30-50 / hr buses try to squeeze through the block of Congress between Paterson Plank and Palisade—plus hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians. The onstreet parking of 20 cars should be banned during the morning rush. It makes difficult for buses to turn and reduces visibility of pedestrians at crosswalks. This would be a minor inconvenience for 20 people easing travel for thousands.
