Pedestrian Safety Study RequestRiconosciuto17th St & Coles St Jersey City, NJ, 07310, USA - DowntownHello. This is not my first and probably will not be my last complaint lobbied about this intersection. This intersection is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS for pedestrians, especially with kids and pets, crossing. And where do kids and pets like to go? Across the street into Coles Park. A dog was hit and killed in this area last week. I was nearly struck with my pet twice in the last week. My husband was nearly struck and hit with our dog today because someone sped up towards the flashing lights. I wanted a woman nearly get hit this morning and the driver rolled down his window and cursed at her. THE FLASHING LIGHTS ARE NOT ENOUGH. PLEASE STUDY AND FIX THIS INTERSECTION. I do not want to go outside just assuming it's only a matter of time until me and my dog are hit and injured or worse.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestRiconosciuto686 Bergen Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - McGinley Square
Today I saw for the millionth time a pedestrian who waited until a break in cars, crossed into the marked crosswalk, but had fast-moving cars speed up dangerously and attempt to mow the walker down! This has also happened to me personally. This crosswalk has signs but no lights. It is not adequate for safety. Drivers do not stop! Drivers do not seem to understand how crosswalks work.
Here's information about a study that shows cars need to be moving slower than 20mph to reliably stop for a pedestrian as required in a crosswalk, regardless of signage or laws: https://usa.streetsblog.org/2023/01/11/want-drivers-to-stop-at-crosswalks-slow-them-down-first/
Please consider:
-lowering speed limit for stretch of Bergen between Communipaw and Montgomery
-marking crosswalks in this section with lights (currently only the ones in front of the school a few blocks down have flashing lights)
-ticketing more for crosswalk or speeding violations in this area
Thank you very much

Cars park right up to the corner and there is no stop sign on South. Pedestrians have to walk way out to the street to see if cars are coming. Could we haveaC stop sign installed and enforce no parking to the corner Thank you.?CCuneeopeaC

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestRiconosciutoSt Pauls Ave Jersey City NJ 07306, United States - Journal SquareBtwn Bevan and 139 on Saint Paul's it is a 2 way road. The only reason it's two ways if for the awful parking lot that serves zero purpose for the community considering all of the buildings in this block, have gated parking with hundreds of spots available to them. This area is incredibly dangerous for pedestrians AND drivers because people are driving into oncoming traffic to go around everyone waiting at the stop sign to turn right onto 139. There should be a bump out here after the lot entrance or some other way to prevent people from driving into oncoming traffic. It happens every morning all morning and it is very dangerous. My real opinion is that this entire stretch of road should be a dead end so this street ceases to be used for cut through traffic.

cars often turn from reservoir to lienau at high speeds and/or speed down the one-block stretch before reaching a dead end at booream.
the "no parking" section on the west side of the street that could benefit from a curb extension or alternative features to calm speeds.

Pedestrian Safety RequestRiconosciutoSip Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
I am writing to express my grave concern about pedestrian safety on Summit Avenue, specifically at two key intersections: Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue, and Summit Avenue and High Street.
These areas are already very high density and are experiencing rapid population growth, with many residents relying on public transportation and navigating the streets on foot. However, the current traffic conditions pose a significant danger to pedestrians.
Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue
I have been nearly hit twice in the past six months while using the crosswalk, despite obeying all pedestrian signals. The primary issue is that vehicles often make rapid right turns at the same time the "Walk" signal is fully lit. This creates a false sense of security for pedestrians and a highly hazardous situation.
To address this, I propose one or more of the following changes:
- Reconfigure the traffic signals to ensure pedestrian safety by creating a clear, separate phase for pedestrian crossings.
- Prohibit turns on red lights at this intersection.
- Install warning lights for pedestrian crossings.
- Reduce the speed limit on both Summit Avenue and Sip Avenue in this area.
Summit Avenue and High Street
This intersection lacks any traffic signal or stop sign, yet cars frequently travel rapidly down Summit Avenue without stopping. This creates a substantial hazard for pedestrians attempting to cross.
To mitigate this danger, I suggest the installation of a stop sign, or a traffic light along with a pedestrian signal, at the intersection of Summit Avenue and High Street.
I believe these measures are essential to prevent a serious accident. Implementing these changes would dramatically improve safety for residents and visitors in this rapidly developing neighborhood.
Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

Traffic Signal MaintenanceRiconosciutoSip Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
The pedestrian buttons at all crosswalks at the Sip Ave and Summit Ave intersection stopped working at least a few weeks back. This really should be fixed at some point, that intersection and the whole area gets quite congested with traffic, construction vehicles, and NJ transit buses making it a bit hazardous for the pedestrians needing to cross through there.
There should also be better timing of the lights, or a delay on the turn signals, so that pedestrians can cross Summit or Sip without needing race the cars and trucks that try to turn quickly as soon as they get a green light at Summit or Sip.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestRiconosciutoNewark Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal SquareThe pedestrian cross light at Newark and Summit Ave (crossing from one side of Newark Ave, in front of the library, to the other side) takes a very long time to change. As a result, most pedestrians don’t wait. I strongly suggest that this light is fixed to make it pedestrian friendly and/or that a crosswalk is added here.

Pedestrian Safety RequestRiconosciutoBay St & Greene St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - The Waterfront
The pedestrian crossing at Bay St/Greene St is already incredibly dangerous, drivers fly down Greene St with no respect for pedestrians.
Recently a warning sign for drivers to slow down was placed in the crossing. Is it possible for this to be fixed to the road surface? When it is in the middle of the road, it does have some impact in forcing drivers to slow down but it is frequently knocked and moved around on the road.
I see near-misses between cars and pedestrians on this crossing nearly every day. Can something permanent be installed at the crossing to slow down the traffic - lane narrowing, etc.?

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsRiconosciuto194 Wayne St Jersey City NJ 07302, United States - DowntownWayne Street between Monmouth Street and Brunswick Street is considered an Access Easement, but drivers frequently use it as a shortcut to skip the traffic light at Monmouth and Columbus Drive or a shortcut from Brunswick to Monmouth to avoid the traffic light at Montgomery Street. Drivers frequently race down this narrow access easement at high speeds. Previous signage indicating the status of Wayne Street is old and illegible at this point. Please consider posting new signage of the status of Wayne St., multiple speed bumps / humps, a reduced speed limit of 10 or 15mph, and additional enforcement.
