Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconhecido686 Bergen Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - McGinley Square
Today I saw for the millionth time a pedestrian who waited until a break in cars, crossed into the marked crosswalk, but had fast-moving cars speed up dangerously and attempt to mow the walker down! This has also happened to me personally. This crosswalk has signs but no lights. It is not adequate for safety. Drivers do not stop! Drivers do not seem to understand how crosswalks work.
Here's information about a study that shows cars need to be moving slower than 20mph to reliably stop for a pedestrian as required in a crosswalk, regardless of signage or laws: https://usa.streetsblog.org/2023/01/11/want-drivers-to-stop-at-crosswalks-slow-them-down-first/
Please consider:
-lowering speed limit for stretch of Bergen between Communipaw and Montgomery
-marking crosswalks in this section with lights (currently only the ones in front of the school a few blocks down have flashing lights)
-ticketing more for crosswalk or speeding violations in this area
Thank you very much

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconhecidoNewark Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal SquareThe pedestrian cross light at Newark and Summit Ave (crossing from one side of Newark Ave, in front of the library, to the other side) takes a very long time to change. As a result, most pedestrians don’t wait. I strongly suggest that this light is fixed to make it pedestrian friendly and/or that a crosswalk is added here.

Delineator issuesReconhecido2nd St & Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownCan we get planters installed at the curb extension? Parks constantly park in them and it defeats the purpose of the extension, especially now with the destroyed bike parking that was acting as a pseudo bollard.

Pedestrian Safety RequestReconhecidoArlington Ave & Grand St Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - Bergen-LafayetteThis is a large cross street with no traffic lights or pedestrian crossing light Cars will often speed through stop signs, even with schools and a park in the area, putting pedestrians in danger The city has been made aware of this before and I hope something is done before something horrible happens

Herbert Pl & Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal SquareAbsolutely ridiculous A plethora of open spaces and this panel can decides to hang out in a non parking zone Stop catering to these 2 blocks of businesses and put up barriers to allow for safe pedestrian passage

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsReconhecidoMarin Blvd & Morgan St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Traffic on Columbus and Marin is a headache and a hazard during rush hour and now with all the construction on Marin its becoming a nightmare.
Have you thought about
1. directing cars coming onto Morgan street between Marin and Newark to Newark Avenue
2. directing cars coming onto Morgan street between Marin and Warren to Warren Street.
3. By doing this you can remove the light on Marin/Morgan which will eliminate the backup on Columbusjust a thought

Traffic/Pedestrian Safety Study RequestsReconhecidoErie St & Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Hi - I am a longtime resident and mom living in Hamilton Park. I’d like to request that the corner of Erie and Pavonia (but really all corners around Cordero) receive the white parking towers that prevent people from parking in the crosswalks.
Two weeks ago after checking repeatedly, a woman who was parked very close to the crosswalk in the location attached hit me and my 6 week old son who was in his bassinet. Last week, I saw it happen again to someone else.
Both times happened after normal school hours, but during Casper after care. I believe installing the white parking towers would prevent possible tragedy by giving a buffer between parked cars and pedestrians. They’re in many other locations in our neighborhood and it seems that surrounding the school should be a priority.
That specific crosswalk does not even have pedestrian signage. Just the crosswalk.
Thank you.

Speed Hump RequestReconhecido768-782 Grand St Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - Bergen-LafayetteWe’re urgently requesting a speed hump or other traffic calming measures (e.g., stop sign, traffic light) on grand street between Clinton and Arlington Ave directly across from Arlington Park. Despite having submitted a prior formal request, cars continue to speed dangerously on this stretch, and there have been multiple crashes in recent months. It’s a high-foot-traffic area, and young children are often crossing to access the park. Pedestrian walkways are often ignored by speeding cars.

Pedestrian Safety RequestReconhecidoPalisade Ave & Paterson Plank Rd Union City, NJ, 07087, USA - The HeightsThe signaling was recently redone on the corner of Paterson Plank Rd and Palisade Ave. Not only does there seem to be more car congestion and haphazard turning than before, but now pedestrians must wait for two complete traffic cycles to cross (which I just timed at 5:30pm to be approximately 4 minutes). This is leading to large groups of pedestrians waiting on these small, unsafe corners. The signaling is now a pedestrian all way, which while a great idea, only gives pedestrians about 16 seconds to cross. A few days ago I saw an elderly woman unable to make the full crossing of both streets in that amount of time. So, she waited, which means it took her nearly 9 minutes to traverse a single intersection. This is seriously negatively impacting the most vulnerable street users and completely disincentivizes pedestrian traffic. Please fix this—pedestrians should have the same priority as cars and be able to go after both ways of traffic go.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconhecidoAbbett St & Booraem Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The HeightsOn intersection of Abbett and Booraem, there’s not enough streetlight and there’s no stop sign. With the parked cars on both sides on the street on Booraem, cars can’t see when someone is trying cross from Booraem to Abbett or vice versa. Can you please look into this and place lighting and a stop sign here?

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestReconhecidoNewark Ave & Waldo Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal SquareIs there anyway a stop light can be put on that intersection of Waldo and Newark Ave Because that left turn sign doesn't seem to have drivers proper attention and they still continue to make the left turns anyways especially during school hours Not only it’s unsafe for the school zone but for the children on lunch or dismissal times
