17th St & Coles St Jersey City, NJ, 07310, USA - DowntownHello. This is not my first and probably will not be my last complaint lobbied about this intersection. This intersection is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS for pedestrians, especially with kids and pets, crossing. And where do kids and pets like to go? Across the street into Coles Park. A dog was hit and killed in this area last week. I was nearly struck with my pet twice in the last week. My husband was nearly struck and hit with our dog today because someone sped up towards the flashing lights. I wanted a woman nearly get hit this morning and the driver rolled down his window and cursed at her. THE FLASHING LIGHTS ARE NOT ENOUGH. PLEASE STUDY AND FIX THIS INTERSECTION. I do not want to go outside just assuming it's only a matter of time until me and my dog are hit and injured or worse.

Pedestrian Safety RequestGodkänd6th St & Jersey Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownJersey Avenue being a two way street between hamilton park and 1st street is extremely dangerous for pedestrians and bikers. There are no bike lanes and crossing Jersey Avenue can be a stressful event as cars are coming fast both ways and don't respect the red light (on 6th street) or the stop signs. Jersey Avenue would benefit in becoming a one-way street with protected bike lines.

Pedestrian Safety RequestGodkändSip Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
I am writing to express my grave concern about pedestrian safety on Summit Avenue, specifically at two key intersections: Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue, and Summit Avenue and High Street.
These areas are already very high density and are experiencing rapid population growth, with many residents relying on public transportation and navigating the streets on foot. However, the current traffic conditions pose a significant danger to pedestrians.
Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue
I have been nearly hit twice in the past six months while using the crosswalk, despite obeying all pedestrian signals. The primary issue is that vehicles often make rapid right turns at the same time the "Walk" signal is fully lit. This creates a false sense of security for pedestrians and a highly hazardous situation.
To address this, I propose one or more of the following changes:
- Reconfigure the traffic signals to ensure pedestrian safety by creating a clear, separate phase for pedestrian crossings.
- Prohibit turns on red lights at this intersection.
- Install warning lights for pedestrian crossings.
- Reduce the speed limit on both Summit Avenue and Sip Avenue in this area.
Summit Avenue and High Street
This intersection lacks any traffic signal or stop sign, yet cars frequently travel rapidly down Summit Avenue without stopping. This creates a substantial hazard for pedestrians attempting to cross.
To mitigate this danger, I suggest the installation of a stop sign, or a traffic light along with a pedestrian signal, at the intersection of Summit Avenue and High Street.
I believe these measures are essential to prevent a serious accident. Implementing these changes would dramatically improve safety for residents and visitors in this rapidly developing neighborhood.
Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

32 Claremont Ave Jersey City 07305, United States - Bergen-LafayetteClaremont is a two way street which allows parking on both sides of the street. If two cars are coming in opposite directions there is no room to pass. This street should be a one way street or have parking on only one side

686 Bergen Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - McGinley Square
Today I saw for the millionth time a pedestrian who waited until a break in cars, crossed into the marked crosswalk, but had fast-moving cars speed up dangerously and attempt to mow the walker down! This has also happened to me personally. This crosswalk has signs but no lights. It is not adequate for safety. Drivers do not stop! Drivers do not seem to understand how crosswalks work.
Here's information about a study that shows cars need to be moving slower than 20mph to reliably stop for a pedestrian as required in a crosswalk, regardless of signage or laws: https://usa.streetsblog.org/2023/01/11/want-drivers-to-stop-at-crosswalks-slow-them-down-first/
Please consider:
-lowering speed limit for stretch of Bergen between Communipaw and Montgomery
-marking crosswalks in this section with lights (currently only the ones in front of the school a few blocks down have flashing lights)
-ticketing more for crosswalk or speeding violations in this area
Thank you very much

Traffic Signal MaintenanceGodkändSip Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
The pedestrian buttons at all crosswalks at the Sip Ave and Summit Ave intersection stopped working at least a few weeks back. This really should be fixed at some point, that intersection and the whole area gets quite congested with traffic, construction vehicles, and NJ transit buses making it a bit hazardous for the pedestrians needing to cross through there.
There should also be better timing of the lights, or a delay on the turn signals, so that pedestrians can cross Summit or Sip without needing race the cars and trucks that try to turn quickly as soon as they get a green light at Summit or Sip.

Pedestrian Safety RequestGodkändBay St & Greene St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - The Waterfront
The pedestrian crossing at Bay St/Greene St is already incredibly dangerous, drivers fly down Greene St with no respect for pedestrians.
Recently a warning sign for drivers to slow down was placed in the crossing. Is it possible for this to be fixed to the road surface? When it is in the middle of the road, it does have some impact in forcing drivers to slow down but it is frequently knocked and moved around on the road.
I see near-misses between cars and pedestrians on this crossing nearly every day. Can something permanent be installed at the crossing to slow down the traffic - lane narrowing, etc.?
