Pedestrian Safety RequestKinilalaBelmont Ave & Monticello Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - McGinley SquareThe traffic light at Belmont and Monticello needs to a sign that says “No turn on red during school hours (8-9am, 2-3pm).” Last week in the morning, the crossing guard was crossing a group of kids and someone turned into the crosswalk while the kids and crossing guard were in the middle of the street. This is not uncommon and it’s only a matter of time before someone gets hit by a car. Also requesting traffic enforcement for the morning hours for the first few weeks after the sign is installed.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestKinilala150 Van Winkle Ave Jersey City NJ 07306, United States - Journal SquareThere is constant traffic backing up on Van Winkle as well as St Paul's Avenue (between Tonnelle Ave and JFK) while the commercial corridor and designated truck route of Newark Ave remains empty or has far less volume even during peak rush hours Van Winkle and St Paul's (both residential streets) continue to be cut-thrus for impatient and aggressive drivers, creating unsafe conditions for pedestrians while contributing to the excessive noise and air pollution.

Pedestrian Safety RequestKinilalaSussex St & Van Vorst St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownStop sign request. Can Stop signs be added on Van Vorst St at Sussex? Cars and trucks fly through this area where there is currently a daycare, kids from school and residents walking. It's becoming increasingly dangerous with the speed cars and trucks are going in both direction on this portion of the street

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestKinilala62 Hutton St Jersey City, New Jersey, 07307 - The Heights
Police and public do not obey stop signs. We are two blocks away from the police department and police do not observe stop signs. They do not enforce people running stop signs, and when approached about this issue, make excuses that “the stop signs are new”.
This is not an isolated issue. This is seemingly accepted norm for this neighborhood and Jersey City in general.
Stand on any street corner in this block for fifteen minutes, and it becomes apparent. Please, we need a pedestrian safety study and/or consequences for public drivers and for police not enforcing driving laws and exacerbating the issue by ignoring street signs themselves.
This is for Jersey City Heights in general, but Griffith to Franklin/Sherman to Central Avenue, specifically.

Pedestrian Safety RequestKinilala9th St & Erie St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownRequesting hardened infrastructure to daylight this intersection. During school hours in particular but also other times of day, vehicles regularly park on all four corners blocking crosswalks and visibility making it incredibly dangerous to cross street, especially with young children.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestKinilalaCongress St & Sherman Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The HeightsCrash at this intersection this morning We need a stop sign and curb bump outs at this intersection It is difficult and dangerous to cross Congress St as both a pedestrian and driver The crosswalks are frequently blocked, esp in the morning during school drop off (I get the need for a quick drop off in the morning but it comes at the expense of many others safety This mornings crash looked like it involved kids going to school)

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestKinilalaSaint Pauls Ave & Skillman Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Squareit is impossible to cross here in the morning. No one stops at the RFP as cars and large trucks race through the intersection to get to the light. There are also a ton of cars turning onto and off of Skillman due to the massive parking garage for the building on JFK, the parking lot for the school, and the large surface lot at the dead end of skillman. The city needs to install a four way stop here like they did at liberty.

Pedestrian Safety RequestKinilala1st St & Monmouth St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownNeed a stop sign or stop light installed at this intersection urgently. It has been 3 years without a solution. Escalation is now warranted. This is a dangerous intersection, no stop sign or stop light for pedestrians. Cars speed through it. Many residents have had close calls.

Pedestrian Safety Study RequestKinilala3rd St & Brunswick St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownAll of the corners at this intersection were redone but with no safety improvements. Loading zones and curb extensions are needed to protect the pedestrian right of way. Also note that this is a school corner (PS5) at pickup time.

Traffic Signal MaintenanceKinilalaCentral Ave & Hoboken Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal SquareThis is an accessible pedestrian signal (APS) pushbutton for the visually impaired.
It does NOT control the pedestrian walk signals. Those are on "pedestrian recall" and operate during every traffic cycle.
There are 6 APS units at this intersection and NONE work properly.
Typically, a visually-impaired pedestrian touches the raised arrow and hears a "WAIT". When the WALK signal comes on, the APS vibrates AND a voice says "WALK signal is on to cross .."
When the WALK phase ends, the voice counts down the remaining seconds in the DON'T WALK phase.
The intersection one block away at Central & Newark works properly.
This intersection at Central & Hoboken needs to be programmed the same way. -
Pedestrian Safety Study RequestKinilalaCongress St & Webster Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The HeightsThe stretch from Webster to Central on Congress St has no stop signs As a result, many drivers speed up Congress St (past a day care, and past crossings that access two schools and a major park) We need to control traffic on Congress St and make it safer for residents There are also crashes at these intersections frequently because it's difficult to see oncoming traffic if you need to cross Cambridge, Sherman or Hancock
