Central Ave & Ferry St Jersey City, New Jersey, 07307 - The Heights
The crosswalk should be moved from directly in front of the church which is also where cars make the left turn on to Ferry St off Central to directly in front of palisade Pups. It’s approximately 25 feet away from where it is now but I think it would be much safer for pedestrians to cross on to that side of Ferry. In order to make the left turn you need to drive over the cross walk. Some drivers behind are inpatient and don’t want to wait and they whip around on the right side to pass which is very dangerous if someone has come in to the crosswalk.

crossing guard Sam is working against all odds to prevent an accident here. it's insane every block downtown has a stop sign or a light but Sam is fending for himself. Does the city really care that little about this side of town or are they waiting for a kid to get hit ?
  • Brunswick St & Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Bollards and corner expansion requested for Brunswick and Newark. Cars make a right turn off Newark at a rapid speed. Many children cross at this corner for PS5.

1st St & Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
This area needs curb extensions and loading zones. It’s unsafe for pedestrians because there’s nowhere for deliveries to be made.

Grand St & Marin Blvd Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown

Why was my previous request archived???

I was walking my baby in our stroller along with my dog and almost got hit by a car in this corner TWICE. Care turning off of grand street to Marin are super aggressive. I’ve also seen multiple people almost get hit here beside me, and know a biker was killed in this location.

This intersection is an issue because many people get off the highway and use this to cut through downtown. Either there is a red left turn signal and/or something, this intersection needs help.

  • Arlington Ave & Harmon St Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - Bergen-Lafayette
Cars do not stop at the crosswalk for pedestrians at the corner of Arlington Ave. and Harmon St. The stop sign is hidden and not visible.

Sip Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square

I am writing to express my grave concern about pedestrian safety on Summit Avenue, specifically at two key intersections: Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue, and Summit Avenue and High Street.

These areas are already very high density and are experiencing rapid population growth, with many residents relying on public transportation and navigating the streets on foot. However, the current traffic conditions pose a significant danger to pedestrians.

    Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue

I have been nearly hit twice in the past six months while using the crosswalk, despite obeying all pedestrian signals. The primary issue is that vehicles often make rapid right turns at the same time the "Walk" signal is fully lit. This creates a false sense of security for pedestrians and a highly hazardous situation.

To address this, I propose one or more of the following changes:

    - Reconfigure the traffic signals to ensure pedestrian safety by creating a clear, separate phase for pedestrian crossings.

    - Prohibit turns on red lights at this intersection.

    - Install warning lights for pedestrian crossings.

    - Reduce the speed limit on both Summit Avenue and Sip Avenue in this area.

    Summit Avenue and High Street

This intersection lacks any traffic signal or stop sign, yet cars frequently travel rapidly down Summit Avenue without stopping. This creates a substantial hazard for pedestrians attempting to cross.

To mitigate this danger, I suggest the installation of a stop sign, or a traffic light along with a pedestrian signal, at the intersection of Summit Avenue and High Street.

I believe these measures are essential to prevent a serious accident. Implementing these changes would dramatically improve safety for residents and visitors in this rapidly developing neighborhood.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

340 Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ 07302, USA - Downtown
The intersection of Newark, 5th and Merseles is a tragedy waiting to happen during morning rush hour as kids are crossing on the way to PS5. There is no stop sign, traffic light to protect pedestrians in the crosswalk. Drivers ignore the flashing crossing lights and turn a 2 lane road into 4 as the cross the median and pass vehicles on the right OR LEFT to get by the cars that DO stop for pedestrians. They also ignore the crossing guard (who has been absent the past week). The 25mph speed limit is ignored as people are doing 40. In the few weeks school has been open, there have been close calls even when the crossing guard is there holding up a stop sign. The construction at the intersection also limits sidewalk space.
  • Congress St & Palisade Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07307, USA - The Heights
Something like 30-50 / hr buses try to squeeze through the block of Congress between Paterson Plank and Palisade—plus hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians. The onstreet parking of 20 cars should be banned during the morning rush. It makes difficult for buses to turn and reduces visibility of pedestrians at crosswalks. This would be a minor inconvenience for 20 people easing travel for thousands.

Berry Lane Park Union St, Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - Bergen-Lafayette
I have noticed multiple requests to either add multiple stops signs or traffic lights along Garfield Ave near Berry Lane Park. It’s tragic when elected officials brag about a new development just to flake on community safety. Students, elderly residents, pet-owners, etc. should’nt have to deal with speeding and drivers who refuse to stop. If you want more people to move here, the least you can do is protect them.

6th St & Jersey Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Jersey Avenue being a two way street between hamilton park and 1st street is extremely dangerous for pedestrians and bikers. There are no bike lanes and crossing Jersey Avenue can be a stressful event as cars are coming fast both ways and don't respect the red light (on 6th street) or the stop signs. Jersey Avenue would benefit in becoming a one-way street with protected bike lines.

Arlington Ave & Grand St Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - Bergen-Lafayette
Very dangerous intersection with cars coming from Grand, Arlington, and Harmon. No one stops for pedestrians. Right across from Arlington Park so kids trying to cross, which makes it extra concerning how dangerous it is.
