Transportation or Parking Improvement RequestAcknowledgedCollege St & S Willard St Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington Electric
Traffic flow between College & Main St. on S Willard is dangerous and unreasonably congested during peak hours.
Turning out of our driveway on the east (parking) side of Willard north of College St. is already treacherous at all hours of the day due to limited visibility; on average, I experience a near-collision roughly twice a week despite an abundance of caution, and I have seen my neighbors t-boned more than once trying to get out of the driveway.
Extreme traffic backups during peak hours make this problem FAR worse - cars waiting to turn left on College St or Main St cause southbound backups to Bradley, Buell, and - occasionally - Pearl St.
The best solution would be to install a left-turn arrow on Willard St for cars trying to get onto eastbound Main St... or at College St. to try and direct more traffic toward campus that way.
Also, with full awareness that parking was moved to the east side of Willard only a few years ago, I'll underscore that it has created a very dangerous situation for people living on that side of the street. With cars parked further out than usual due to snow, and routine encroachment into driveway entrances by people parking on the street, it's made even more awful.
All of this is also dangerous to pedestrians, who regularly cross Willard at Bradley and Buell, despite there being no marked crosswalks there (please don't add them... it'll only make congestion worse).
Anyway, you're the experts, but something must be done.

Transportation or Parking Improvement RequestAcknowledged142-150 Lakeside Ave Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington ElectricThe right turn only lane on Lakeside approaching the Champlain Parkway from the west is unnecessary, confusing, and unsafe. There is not enough traffic volume to justify it. Cars regularly use it when going straight, which causes safety concerns when merging with drivers in the actual straight ahead lane to its left, which must shift right to get into the lane beyond the intersection. I suggest a few options. The preferred option is to restripe this whole section to put in bike lanes on each side, and only one lane in each direction for motorized traffic. Another option is to narrow the roadway by blocking off the right lane; maybe make it a parking lane, but with barriers at each end to prevent vehicles from driving there (but make the barrier pervious to bikes). The final and least desirable option (but better than status quo) would be to turn the right lane into the through lane and make the left/middle lane a left turn-only lane for the Innovation Center - also unnecessary but causing less harm, and less confusion. Any of these would improve safety in this section.

While the Champlain Parkway is under construction and Pine Street is closed at its southern end, could we add some temporary traffic calming measures installed in the "Addition" neighborhood?
There is now a lot of cut-through traffic in the area bounded by Pine, Shelburne, Flynn, and Home. Traffic is up, people are going fast, and often not even slowing through stop signs. How about some of those temporary planters that can be placed in intersections to force people to at least reduce speed as they blow through? Or maybe "local traffic only" signs, or some temporary one-ways?
Anything to reduce traffic speed and/or volume would help us feel safer. There are a lot of little kids in the neighborhood who play in and around the roads and they're unaccustomed to so many cars moving at such high speeds.
This is a temporary request: I imagine that the need will be much less once the Parkway connection is open to I-189.

I would like to express serious concern over the proposed pilot project for this intersection.
While the pilot configuration was in place, unusual traffic backup conditions were experienced during periods that traffic normally flows well. Being a resident of this area, I must travel through this intersection regularly. I noticed other drivers that looked confused and / or angered by the configuration. The current permanent traffic pattern has been working well for years. To my knowledge, there have been very few accidents at this intersection since I moved to Venus Avenue 8 years ago. Why would we change one of the few actual working intersections in the city? Why aren't we investing in pilot projects that might actually improve the traffic flow instead of impeding it?
A few ideas:
1. lights that are timed correctly for traffic volume
2. restoring lighting to the northern section of the beltline where animals regularly enter lanes of travel
3. creating more travel corridors with speed deterrent devices and rotaries instead of all-way stopsAny one of these ideas might go a lot further to improve traffic and occurrence of accidents than more dedicated bike lanes and decorative planters.

Transportation or Parking Improvement RequestAcknowledgedMain St & S Willard St Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington ElectricThere needs to be a turn lane both Southbound and Northbound on S. I hope this the right place to file this concern but recently I’ve had to drive through this intersection during busier times (8-9am) and 3-5pm and nearly every time, drivers are forced to do dangerous maneuvers they raise serious concerns about both driver and pedestrian/cyclist safety.
The primary issue I think is they there is no way for cars taking lefts to easily let drivers going straight through. In addition there are many times when there is no break in traffic so left turners often take the left on a red.
Is this intersection on your agenda? I’m seriously concerned about the danger of this intersection.
Perhaps a left turn light or offset cycle could allow left turners to get through without causing a bottleneck.
I’ve also had dangerous interactions with cars that have become impatient while waiting here cycling my kids to and from school along Willard.Let me know if there is anything I can do to help or if there is another place I should file this concern.
Thanks,

Transportation or Parking Improvement RequestAcknowledgedManhattan Dr & Spring St Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington Electrici'm not sure what it's going to take to get someone to do something about this intersection, but the amount of times i personally come close to getting hit by a vehicle is insane. does someone need to get hit by a car for the city to take this seriously? not to mention it is in a school zone. understanding that the school is out of commission this year, but there is no difference in how vehicles use this intersection when school is in session except that there are MORE pedestrians. the cross walk is almost completely eroded so drivers feel like it's their right to actually argue with pedestrians that they have the right of way. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do something. minimally a repainted crosswalk and a flashing light are needed.
