North St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the pedestrian safety issues on North Street, particularly the section between N Union and N Willard. This is a residential neighborhood, home to a park frequented by children, and a school walking route for Edmonds, IAA, and SA.
The reckless driving on North Street has created a dangerous environment for pedestrians. The excessive speed and disregard for folks trying to cross the street are alarming. To mitigate this issue, I hoping you will consider the following traffic calming measures:
Installation of flashing crosswalk signs at the intersections of North Street and School Street, as well as North Street and Booth/Russell streets. These signs will increase visibility for pedestrians and encourage drivers to slow down.
Implementation of speed bumps, medians, or curb extensions on North Street between N Union and N Willard. These measures will effectively reduce vehicle speeds and create a safer environment for pedestrians.
I urge the city council to prioritize the safety of our community by implementing these traffic calming measures. Let's create a more livable neighborhood for everyone.

Cherry St & Cathedral Sq Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
Just to the east of our property, and just west of the Courthouse, there is a crosswalk with a cut-down curb. It crosses to the Hotel Vermont and the parking garage. In my opinion, it has become a dangerous place.
Cars park in that crosswalk and block the cut down curb. Cars exiting the parking lot often begin a turn while the driver is looking for oncoming traffic in the opposite direction of their turn.
I am in a wheelchair and others in our building use walkers and canes. Often, I am not seen while I am in the crosswalk. I have to turn my wheelchair into the garage exit driveway when the curb is blocked.
Similarly, on "my" end, the north end of the walk, vehicles...cars, bikes, and scooters sail downhill and cannot stop as I enter the walkway. So, at the very least, the walkway needs fresh paint. The cut down needs a do not park sign or markings. I would like to have posts installed which close the lane from cars in front of the hotel, ideally.
I kid you not, Despite having flags on my wheelchair, vehicles disregard the purpose of the crosswalk all the time and it's scary. What can be done? If I use the crosswalks uphill or downhill from this one, there is not much improvement either. At the corner of Cherry and Battery, I've had the experience of being in the crosswalk when a car crosses it and waits for the light to change, completely disregarding pedestrians or wheelchairs.

705-799 North Ave Burlington, VT, 05408, USA - Burlington Electric). Northbound drivers continue to use the bike lane as they approach the entrance ramp for TR 127. Some clearly use it to cut past cars stopped at the intersection, while others may be confused by the signage and the dividers that are currently there.
This presents a hazard to drivers turning right from the northbound lane. It's a personal issue for me, as I use that intersection frequently.
I ask that the DPW take steps ASAP to erect a safe means of blocking traffic from entering the bike lane there -
S Willard St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
I live on S. Willard St. and have been increasingly concerned about the difficulty of turning out onto Willard from any driveway. Because of the parked cars on the side of the street, it is difficult to see any oncoming traffic while turning out. I have witnessed a car accident as well as been hit on my bike because of this.
Moreover, the lengthy distance between crosswalks (between College and Pearl street) makes it so that people jaywalk often and cars tend to drive at faster speeds. All of this makes for a very unsafe situation.
If cars were banned from parking on the street (or at least banned from one car length adjacent to each driveway) I think the safety of this situation could be improved. Also, would it be possible to put in another crosswalk (and crosswalk lights?) on Willard between College and Pearl so people are less likely to jaywalk and cars would hopefully be more cautious?
Thank you for considering. Many of are very concerned about this matter.

S Winooski Ave & Main St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington ElectricWhen heading west on Main, the corner of So Winooski has been changed recently and it is becoming a dangerous intersection.
The markings for right hand turn indicate ones car must be in right lane with a marked off segment further to the right where cement flower planters used to be. A non lane.
People are flying through using this marked off segment as if it is a lane and turning right cutting off those in the proper lane.
Either the planters need to come back or cars should be allowed to use this lane for right hand turns.
I have almost got hit 3 times since this change. -
Main St & University Hts Burlington, Vermont, 05405 - Burlington ElectricMain Street intersection at the top of the UVM campus by university heights road. As someone who uses the two crosswalks at this intersection daily, I'm a frequent observer of near-collisions between cars and pedestrians. Today, I was the subject of one of these near collisions as I tried to use the crosswalk closer to the Davis Center. When using that specific crosswalk, one receives a white walk signal for a few seconds before it starts to blink. Once the crossing signal begins blinking (with 15-20 seconds left to walk), the cars coming out of University Heights rd receive a green light, permitting them to turn left through that same crosswalk. This means that if said cars aren't paying attention, there's a chance that they run over any pedestrians still using the crosswalk. This happened to me today as I approached the crosswalk from the side of the street opposite University Heights rd with 15 seconds to spare. I noticed that left-turning cars started to move, with one speeding in front of me as I approached and stopped at the road (seeing as they did not stop nor slow down for me). Then, I started to jog towards the center median (after noticing cars accelerating down U-Heights rd to make the green light) and subsequently was required to jump out of the way as a speeding car came inches from killing me. I believe that this intersection is hazardous and urgently needs redesigning. Cars need to be informed that a solid green light still indicates a yield when turning. At this intersection, pedestrians have the right of way, but it sure doesn't feel like it. As for solutions, I would gladly provide some in further correspondence, but perhaps at the bare minimum, raising the crosswalks would help cars stay alert.
Thank you for your consideration, -
261 S Prospect St Burlington VT 05401, United States - Burlington ElectricThere are dangerous speed issues on S. Prospect St. With no lines painted on the pavement and terrible speed bumps, cars exceed the 25 mile an hour speed limit between the stop sign at Maple Street and the stop sign on Cliff Street. We desperately need two of these speed monitoring signs shown in the picture here, One facing in each direction. This will alert drivers to the rate of speed and force them to slow down.

62 Loomis St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
So, it seems to me like a bit of a cop out in Issue ID 12511903 to just state "The two streets in question that meet at Loomis St. don't have stop signs because an ordinance for them has not been created. Until one has been issued we can not install them." and then simply close the ticket and give no feedback on how to make that happen or, ideally, a statement that you've set the process in motion.
So, here, officially, I am asking you to get the requisite bureaucracy completed to install stop signs at this intersection so that we can get on with keeping people using our streets safer without further delay.
I also ask that in the future rather than dismissing valid requests on technicalities and dropping it that you instead help folks find the right paths to get their requests serviced rather than allowing dangerous situations to linger.

Riverside Ave & N Winooski Ave Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington ElectricThe Public Works Department turned this red light to blinking Yellow at 9 Pm at night. This leaves a very dangerous situation for pedestrians trying to cross from the North Winooski Ave side of the street as this is a blind corner, you Cannot see what is coming up Riverside Ave. from Winooski. We suggest a Mirror be placed on the "Welcome to Burlington" sign that is at the head of the fence by the Queen City Steel Property so that Pedestrians can see the cars. Gene Bergman has been made aware of this request.
