The traffic light at the corner of Battery and Maple doesn't solve any problems. The crosswalk button takes so long that most people have already jaywalked by the time they get the signal to go...and since the button has been pushed, people making right hand turns from Maple onto Battery can't turn due to the no right on red signal meant to allow pedestrians to cross. The new light has made things more confusing for drivers and pedestrians. Half of the time there is a line of cars stopped at the light, backing all the way up to the Shanty on the shore while the Maple St. signal, although green, has no cars. There must be a smart signal of some sort that can better manage the flow and protect people in the crosswalk.

Pearl Street at Union - Resident is frustrated and concerned with the travel lane changes that were done last year. It has left a bare minimum of space to pull in and out of her driveway due to cars being parked on either side of her driveway. She finds it quite hazardous.

2 items of concern at Hula site -

    1. There is an immediate need for a stop sign for the cars coming out of the Hula parking area (behind the original Blodgett building). There is no stop sign there or on Central Ave. so cars can come out onto Lakeside for both directions . I've seen several almost-accidents when cars don't stop coming out of Hula.

    2. Coming from the east, those first two parking spaces on Lakeside Ave. in front of Hula block the view of cars coming up the hill and should really be eliminated.

    Thanks for your consideration.

I understand that these are cheap and easy to replace. However, has anyone looked at the environmental impact of making, replacing, and throwing away all of these disposable plastic barriers. They can potentially be recycled, but China is no longer taking our plastic recycling. Does DPW have a long term plan in place to replace these barriers with something more environmentally friendly?
    Thank you.

Trucks are having a hard time making the turn because of the bump out.
  • 26 Dodds Ct Burlington, VT, 05408, USA - Burlington Electric

Dodds Court should be a one way, have lots and lots of speed bumps, or be a dead end. It is currently used as a way for cars to bypass the light on the corner of Shore Road and North Ave.

That would be fine, except that the curve in the road decreases sight lines, and there are children playing and biking around here. I'd like to see cars slow down significantly (like, to 15 mph or less), or simple not be able to use this road to bypass the light by making it take longer than waiting (many speed bumps) or be impassable (dead end).

  • 340 North St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
Across the street from us at 340 North Street, is a street parking spot that always has 2 cars trying to squeeze into it. It measures 29' from curb cut to curb cut. As I understand it, there needs to be 2' from the end of the car to the nearest curb cut. So, 2' from each side of this space from 29' equals 25'. Standard parking space design depth is 20'. There are constantly cars being towed because of the parking enforcement. I wasn't sure if parking enforcement makes recommendations for signage at certain locations? I do know that the tail end and nose end of cars are constantly edging into the driveway curb cuts on both ends of this spot, making it dangerous and difficult for people to see/pull out onto the streets safely. I recently saw a sign on North Willard saying something like.."this space for single car only" or something like that. Can we get one installed here as well?

    Deceptive markings and signage.

I received a ticket for parking in this spot near the corner of Drew and North street. The street has clear parking space space markings where I parked, and there is a sign between the next driveway and the marked space that says no parking here to corner. The obvious inference from the combination of sign and markings is to not park too close to the driveway, but the parking enforcement officer told me it means that you can't park in the area with the parking spot markings.

I will be contesting the ticket, but this is an obvious signage failure that will continue to confuse people until it is corrected.
