  • Main St & S Willard St Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington Electric

Can the crosswalks at Main and Willard allow pedestrians to cross while keeping ALL lights red? I've been nearly struck by multiple cars while walking on Main crossing over Willard. This is also a major crossing point for students aat Edmunds Elementary and Middle schools.

The main issue appears to be the left turning traffic not having a left turn light. They are allowed to turn and must beat the oncoming traffic while pedestrians are crossing. Additionally the crosswalk signals are particular difficult to see from a vehicle attempting to turn left from Main on to Willard.

Crosswalk at Hunt on Gosse Ct lacks appropriate "no parking" signage to allow sight lines for this heavily used crossing.
  • 145 Shelburne Rd Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington Electric
Insufficient signage regarding zipper merge when approaching roundabout at junction of Shelburne St, S. Willard St & Locust St. Dangerous merging conditions due to insufficient signage / community misunderstanding of zipper merge traffic pattern. Requesting enhanced signage on Shelburne St approaching roundabout in NW direction (toward Burlington), i.e. “USE BOTH LANES” “ALTERNATE” “TAKE TURNS” “ZIPPER MERGE” and perhaps consider better visual aids. Current conditions are such that many drivers “race” from the left lane to cut folks off / not allow for merging from right lane, which forces drivers to merge into one lane far earlier than necessary, causing unnecessary traffic congestion.

Now that the bus stop in front of the library is removed could you please add more quality bike racks at this location. There has been a chronic lack of quality bike parking at the library. This spot will fit several racks.
  • Booth St Burlington, VT, 05401, USA - Burlington Electric

I am submitting this document that lays out a suggestion to possibly address a way to increase the number of electric vehicle charging options in the Old North End without sacrificing any existing parking capacity by changing the current parallel parking on Booth Street to be diagonal parking and installing EV charging stations at some of the extra spaces.

If you can suggest a better point of contact with the city for this proposal, please let me know.

  • 340 North St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
Across the street from us at 340 North Street, is a street parking spot that always has 2 cars trying to squeeze into it. It measures 29' from curb cut to curb cut. As I understand it, there needs to be 2' from the end of the car to the nearest curb cut. So, 2' from each side of this space from 29' equals 25'. Standard parking space design depth is 20'. There are constantly cars being towed because of the parking enforcement. I wasn't sure if parking enforcement makes recommendations for signage at certain locations? I do know that the tail end and nose end of cars are constantly edging into the driveway curb cuts on both ends of this spot, making it dangerous and difficult for people to see/pull out onto the streets safely. I recently saw a sign on North Willard saying something like.."this space for single car only" or something like that. Can we get one installed here as well?

  • 36 Elmwood Ave Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
I hope this email finds you well, though I must express that I am deeply frustrated and concerned about an issue that has persisted for far too long. Over the past year, I have been living at 36 Elmwood Avenue, where we have had an ongoing issue with parking spaces in front of our residence that has caused significant inconvenience and frustration.
Initially, we had two public parking spots in front of our house, which were already far too small for the average vehicle. These undersized parking spaces frequently led to larger vehicles obstructing our driveway, rendering it nearly impossible for us to access or exit our property. The situation reached a point where we had no choice but to lodge numerous complaints with the city regarding the constant obstructions to our driveway.
After much persistence and communication with your department, we were relieved when our concerns were finally taken seriously, and the decision was made to reduce the two undersized spots to one standard parking space. This was a significant step towards resolving our ongoing problem. For a brief period, this solution worked perfectly, allowing us unimpeded access to our driveway.
However, I am writing to express my extreme dismay and disappointment in learning that the city has recently converted the second parking spot into a designated motorcycle parking area. This decision has thrown us back into the same predicament we thought we had overcome. I am deeply concerned that this decision not only appears to be arbitrary but also, more importantly, poses a serious risk to public safety.
The situation is further exacerbated by the fact that this converted space is equipped with a parking meter, which implies that it is a valid parking spot for automobiles. Consequently, I am frustrated and angry about the inevitable recurrence of vehicles parking in this area, completely blocking our driveway and causing us undue stress and inconvenience.
I must emphasize that this situation is not only a matter of inconvenience but also a safety hazard, as it jeopardizes our ability to access our own property in emergencies. I am baffled by the city's decision to implement this change without addressing the legitimate concerns of residents in this neighborhood. One of my fellow residents had previously expressed their reservations during the planning stage, yet it seems that these concerns have been disregarded.
I implore you to reconsider this decision and take immediate action to rectify this situation. The safety and well-being of residents should always be the utmost priority for the city. I request that the second parking space be returned to its previous state as it was before this recent change to a motorcycle spot, ensuring that residents can continue to access their properties without obstruction.
I eagerly await your prompt response and a resolution to this matter. Please understand that this issue has caused significant distress and inconvenience to us, and we trust that the city will take our concerns seriously and act in the best interest of its residents.
  • 239-253 N Prospect St Burlington, Vermont, 05401 - Burlington Electric
Can you put a mirror on the east side of N Prospect St. at the intersection with Archibald? It's a tricky intersection and when you're turning south onto N Prospect from Archibald), you basically have to drive into the intersection and hope nobody hits yo (because of the steep hill towards Riverside)u It's especially bad this time of year when the grass hasn't been cut Having a mirror would allow traffic on Archibald to seecars coming up the blind hill onof N Prospect

The city planner needs to be held accountable and terminated from their position for allowing this to happen in the city.
