  • Buena Vista Park - Corona

I am writing to kindly request the installation of shade structures at the playground in Buena Vista Park. During warmer days, the equipment and surrounding areas become very hot, which can make it uncomfortable and even unsafe for children to play. Adding shade would not only improve safety but also create a more welcoming and enjoyable environment for families throughout the year.

This improvement would greatly benefit the community by encouraging more outdoor activity, protecting children from sun exposure, and enhancing the overall usability of the park.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We truly appreciate the work the city does to maintain and improve our community spaces.

RE: Damage due to sidewalk repair

Public Works – City of Corona
Over the past couple of weeks several areas of concrete sidewalk have been spray painted in our neighborhood, identifying future work – grinding or sidewalk repair/replacement. I ran into some of those doing the markings and asked about the work. They advised it would be later in the year, and that crews would reach out to residents about the work. I explained that I was very concerned as we had recently, (May 2025) re-done a slope and parkway with heavy duty weed barriers and rock. The expense was high, but we had budgeted to do the work due to the numerous benefits: water conservation, soil erosion, low maintenance, durability and aesthetics. They advised that whatever work was done, all would be “left as it was found.” I called Public Works and the clerk answering could provide no information whatsoever.

“No parking” signs were posted, and we anticipated being contacted. I returned home Monday to a crew tearing out the concrete sidewalk at the side of my home. I spoke briefly with the man in charge, who advised they were finishing up, the concrete would be poured shortly thereafter. I again explained my concerns; he reassured me all would be fine. That crew left, and a very small section of concrete was poured late in the day. My husband arrived home and observed the man doing the concrete pour to be rinsing the concrete from the apparatus into the parkway and the rock. He stopped when he saw my husband take a photo of him. Later, we went out and looked at what had been done, we discovered significant disruption to the rock and weed barrier on both the slope and parkway. This included nails pulled, and weed barrier shredded. Markings on the curb indicated that some equipment was driven over the rock and apparently caused the damage. (There is a ramp at the corner very close to this area that could have been utilized instead of going over the curb and the rock.) There is also some concrete in the rock itself. I phoned public works and left a voice message for a phone call and have not yet received any return call.
Yesterday it rained, so there was no work done, also, no return phone call yet. We measured the length of the concrete, and approximately 80 linear feet of sidewalk will be poured, so both sides of that length have been disrupted, as well as the damage to the weed barrier and the concrete rinsed into our parkway rock.

We are writing to try to reach someone in charge of this project – We would like to resolve the damage issues – we are not certain if any of the people we have seen so far are Corona employees or sub-contractors, but request to be contacted as soon as possible by someone from the City. We want to make sure the job is done right. Our hardscape contractor is out of town right now, so we do not have an estimate yet for repairs. We do have some remaining heavy duty weed barrier, but to do the repairs correctly, the rock will need to be lifted, barrier placed and secured, and the rock re-set, and then the barrier at both edges of the length of new sidewalk will also need to be re-set. Again, we just want the job to be done correctly: as it was when the job was completed in May. We are also hoping to avoid any additional damage caused by concrete being rinsed into the parkway rock.

    We have several photos.

I'm aware that this is not a city utility box but, the city needs to put pressure on the utility to fix this It looks bad and it's just a matter
Of time before someone messes with it If it's just a dead utility box it needs to be removed
